BTW: I'm not sure if deaths at Savannah were all from sickness and/or accidents in this period or if there were ongoing combat operations that might have resulted in casualies. My impression, though, is that Screven's Ferry would not have been a very likely place to have seen combat at that time... as it was "behind" Savannah from the sea, where the Union threat was then. Perhaps the cause of Frederick Thompson's death can be found in his Compiled Confederate Service Record which is available on microfilm from the National Archives. RW
