Subject: James Montgomery The DAR Patriot Index says he was a 2nd Lt, so there had to be documentation for that rank. 1st wife - Elizabeth McConnell; 2nd wife Susannah Strange. He was born in Scotland in 1736 and died in Georgia in 1808. Further information from DAR says he died 1/1/1808 in Jackson Co. GA. He served under Capt. John Adam Nessler in the Burke Co. Militia Your message from the Georgia Archives provided - "We do have a record of commissions that reads "James Montgomery Gentln. Commission Second Lieutenant of a Company of Militia in Burke County, commanded by ditto as above & signed per ditto and ditto datd 8th Nov 1777. Recorded 15 decr 1777." This is in colonial Military Commissions Book B2, page 276. This is a photocopy you could send for or come to the Archives to copy. There is a reference to a record of a James Montgomery as 2d Lt.
