28NOV06 Greetings: MISS. MAUREEN- [<[email protected]>] : LIST Thanks for the Reply, and Intel on "ORPHANS*! We are Interested in the "DNA-PROJECT", but have Limited FUNDS?? We are a- -*HINTON* Descendant- of - *JOHN HINTON*- (b. NC- circa- 1715) & *GRIZZELL (KIMBROUGH) - HINTON* - [CHOWAN/ JOCO, NC] Our' - [Maternal] - GG-Grandfather was- *JOHN HINTON*- (b. NC-circa- 1790-1843) - his family was from- "JOCO/ NC". Our "BRICK-WALL" Is: Several Extended- *HINTON FAMILIES*- Migrated from NC- (circa <<1800) -NC>> SC>> GA>>Finally Settling in the- "TUSCALOOSA, ALABAMA" areas- (circa early- 1820's)!! Which of the Several-Extended- *HINTON FAMILIES*, were the Parents of OUR'-*JOHN-(b. NC- circa 1790)*?? On the "ORPHANS", we just recently acquired Intel about a -"Great- Uncle", on which we could find "Nothing At All"!! Turns out that he was "TOOK-IN/ ADOPTED", and Given the Surname of -This- *HINTON RELATIVE*!! But Still- "We Can- NOT Find A- *BIRTH-RECORD* -, Under Either Surname"??? Would that have been the Norm of the day?? Looking for any Intel on the Above. Thanks, MERRY CHRISTMAS, and GOD BLESS. Subject: Wake Co.., NC - orphans I'm researching an Edmond GAWF, Henry GOUGH and Lewis GOFF (funny how they all spelled their name differently). Edmond & Henry are in the 1830 Henderson Co., TN census and Lewis was too young to be a head of household but was probably there too. Each line had a story about being born BARLOW, but raised by GOFF. Sure enough, we did DNA testing on 2 descendants from each line and they all match BARLOWs. They were all born in NC and Wake Co. is where we find BARLOWs and GOFFs so we suspect they're from this area. No luck yet but at least we can cast a wider net. Of course we don't know if our three were brothers (unlikely since Edmond was old enough to take care of the younger two) or possibly uncle/nephews or first cousins. So, if you can find male HINTONs to DNA test, you might be able to find out more information. http://home.comcast.net/~philgoff/DNAresults.htm Good luck in your search Oh, in some records it appears that Edmond "took in" other children. He lost several sons and sons-in-law during the Civil War. Law required someone to stand as guardian for the minor children (women of course not being enough)- and Edmond stepped in. One set were the children of his dau. When he died a neighbor stepped in. Maureen Pierce We have recently found out that an Ancestor of Ours-[in-GA-] with- ["NC","SC" Connections], Took In- *ORPHANS & Needy KIDS* - (circa early 1800's on)! MS. PERKINS-In your' Ancestors Situation, Was this the Norm, or the Exception??? Anyone out there know what the-*Standard PROTOCAL WAS*- In the Family' s Of The day- For Govn't,Census, Legal, Inheritance, etc.??? (1)- Were the ORPHANS, etc? Given the "FAMILY NAME"-If from a Family Member? (2)- What if from an "IN-LAW" Family Member??? (3)- What if from a "Non- Family"??? Hope to hear back soon. MERRY CHRISTMAS TO YOU & YOURS'; TO LIST; TO ONE & ALL; Thanks and GOD BLESS SEMPER FI BA
