    3. My great grandparents married on a bridge over the Suwanee River in Florida. They had eloped because her father didnot want them to marry. She was from Madison County and my great grandfather was from Hamilton County. The marriage was registered in Suwanee County. Apparently, they didn't require parental consent for a 16 year old girl. Maybe the other couple wanted to do it as a protest to the parents or they simply wanted a little publicity. 3. Joe, Thanks for sharing this story. Brings to mind *Bridges of Madison County.* As for the newspaper article, I thought the parental objections may have been so strong that the couple did not want to involve anyone else. But felt that they could have been married in the courthouse or some neutral ground. Then I considered that this might be a custom if the couple were already in a family way and had been condemned by both sets of parents. Wish I had a definite answer. Thanks for your response.
