My experience with death certificates in Georgia is different from Phyllis's. I've found only one county health dept. that would let me look at a death certificate without paying $10.00, and they let me do this only once. I happened to be the only person in the waiting room, and I think they felt sorry for me. I've found one, small county where the death certificates are kept at the courthouse instead of the health dept. The clerk allowed me to look at several death certificates and photocopy one. In all other counties, and I've been to several, I've always had to pay the $10.00. I had a friend who used to say, "People who want ancestors have to be willing to pay for them." I always think about her when I order another death certificate.
