Gosh, BJ - I would call again, the National 1-800 # - When I told the clerk working in our local Soc Sec office that I could not get through on the phone, and that it was not a short drive for us to only to have to sit and wait for 90 min just to ask a question... he told me that they are too busy in the back to answer the phone and keep it off the hook!!! He then told me to call the 1-800 # and I asked for it, and he told me I could find it in the phone book! Anyway, with no other option, I looked it up and called... only to find one really nice lady who, after hearing my question, asked me if I wanted to apply over the phone! (for full Soc Sec), and I told her I would be delighted since I did not get out often and we were expecting snow. Well, she put me in touch with another VERY nice lady in Kansas City, and she took all the information on the phone, assisted me in any way possible, and told us to expect a pink envelope with a marriage verification that my husband had to fill out, and to send it back in the postage paid envelope with a certified copy of my birth certificate - that they would return it! Well, I have three certificed copies, so wasn't too upset... and they were not difficult to order from S.C. vital records... but I NEVER expected to be treated so kindly, with such wonderful service!! I did not wait on-hold longer than 10 min. in which I read the Sunday funnies... so try again, and again, until you get the right person! They do exist!! Happily looking forward to my first check!! MY DEAR MISS. DIANE; GOD BLESS YOU; You must have that "LUCKY- ONE IN A MILLION"- to get a *NICE PERSON*!!! This lady had the Attitude, that she was "Better than the regular folks", that she could apparently be as MEAN to folks as she wanted!! Over the near three (3)-Hours of waiting in a full lobby, it seemed that about every man who came to her window, upon leaving the window he was CUSSING out loud about the "BI*** This", the "BI*** That"??? We see now why they had an "ARMED SECURITY OFFICER" in the Lobby, to keep folks @ bay, to Discourage folks from going "POASTAL ON HER???
