I've recently learned that my ancestor Joseph Jones who migrated to Wilkinson County, Georgia about the time of the Georgia 1805 Land Lottery had a Maryland connection. In fact, it appears that several of the early families who were in Wilkinson County by the 1820 first census may have had roots back to Maryland as well. Does anyone know of any particular reason for this migration or was it just the lure of the new land? Thanks. W. Chris Jones

Hi Sandra, I am a Howard from south GA, my Howard family came from VA, NC, to GA, etc. My grandfather was Simon Peter Howard b. 1834. He had many children, one son whose name was Marion Francis Howard...a lot of the people who knew him best back in those days, referred to him as "Old man M.F." I was very young, but I remember him.
