Lanelle, The surnames from the Greene Co area are, Tuggle and Jeffries. I am descended from Capt. Lodowick Tuggle, and his wife, Dorothy Lee. Lodowick was in the American Revolution in VA and moved to the Greene, Oglethorpe and Wilkes County area abt 1791. His will is in Oglethorpe. I think most of the Tuggles from that area are descended from Lodowick, so your sheriff in the 50's was probably a relative that I don't know. Dorothy Lee's sister, Esther Lee, married William Jeffries. They also moved from VA to Greene / Wilkes Counties. Some of the children from the sisters married each other. Robert Tuggle married Elizabeth Jeffries and Nancy Tuggle married William Jeffries, Jr. They all moved to Jasper Co, GA. Then my line continues with Rebecca Tuggle, dau of Robert and Elizabeth who married her double first cousin, Bolin S. Jeffries, son of William and Nancy. My tree doesn't branch off much for a few generations. =0) Anyway, Bolin and his family later moved to Russell Co, AL and Muscogee Co, GA.
