Dear List Members, If you are requesting a copy of "Dating of the Clothing Styles" you need to send your request to gaila@merrington.net not to the list and not to the incorrect address I gave a few days ago. If gaila@merrington.net would send me a copy or one of you then I would be happy to be the contact. I have had to turn the list into a moderated list. Only today we received over 35 requests to the list asking for a copy. If you were one of these who requested it, you should send your request to the above address. Kathleen Burnett List Mom

Thanks to all who helped clear up the Juniper/Jupiter imbroglio. I'm sure my great grand aunt and her husband are quite pleased to know that they are indeed buried in Juniper, Marion County, GA. Ohhhh Pat in Fl. It was I who made the whoop-de-do over the spelling of Juniper. I read your message and thought, Oh me? I've been spelling Juniper wrong. I thought it was me , never thinking it was you. The joy you have bought to this list with your story about Lake Juniper over shadows any typo. No need to hang your head, if I hadn't made such a noise about it, no one would probably ever notice. My spell checker is on the blink which makes me flying without a co-pilot. I made a "F" in my senior year at Jordan High School, not because I couldn't spell, but because my teacher was my sister's friend and she was in and out our house. I got sassy and she gave me an "F" for the first six weeks. My English teacher was the one and only beautiful and sweet Sara Bolin Heard the wife of Bill Heard of the Chevolet Dealership. To this day when I see her around Columbus, I call her "Miss Bolin". I have never been sassy to an English teacher since then. So believe me Miss Pat from Fl. I wasn't being sassy. Sandra maiden name Waldrop
Lake Juniper is the correct spelling. A few short hours ago, after reading the first listing, I wrote about my vacations on this lake in the 1940, s. I made the tragic mistake of not reading over what I wrote. From now on I shall make that a priority. I certainly made a few mistakes and being a retired school teacher I shall claim that it was not my "larning" but my typing. Also I shall fall back on the fact that I can also claim that I suffer from "Old Timers Disease." So if any of my students of Rosemont or Morningside in the 1940, s and early 1950.s who could possibly be on this list I say , " No I shall not give my name or any clue to my identify." But I will in the future read before I hit that send button. But if anyone should know Edna Earl who lived on 9th Ave in East Highland and who lived with her Aunt and Uncle and who married a Bryon (I believe) Thornton please give her a message. I go by ScottishLass26@aol.com Pat

Earlier this morning someone spell it Jupiter and it set me back. I thought I was spelling it wrong, but the maps have Juniper. I don't suppose the name has been changed thru the years. I'll tell you what, I'' drive back out to Juniper and take a picture of the sign of how it is spelled today and scan it to you. Sandra
Georgia Archives 2003 Lunch and Learn Lecture Series Morrow, Georgia This is just a reminder that the August Lunch & Learn Lecture will take place on Tuesday, August 12, from 12-1, at the Georgia Archives. The topic is: "Windows into a Life: The Letters and Art of Mary E. Hutchinson" Julie Turner, Volunteer Services Coordinator, Georgia Archives As a young woman, Mary Elisabeth Hutchinson (1906-1970) left Atlanta to study art at the National Academy in New York City. She wrote frequent letters home which provide a vivid glimpse into the daily life and budding career of the artist. Her career thrived throughout the Depression era as both an independent artist and a WPA teacher. Ms. Turner will illustrate how Hutchinson's work and letters come together as a mosaic window not only into her New York life, but into Atlanta's emerging art community as well. Mark your calendars for the second Tuesday of each month to ensure that you can come to the Georgia Archives Lunch & Learn Lecture Series! The free monthly series is designed to help the public learn more about Georgia's rich history. It began in 1993 and features guest speakers on a variety of topics of interest. The full schedule and directions to the Georgia Archives are available on our website at www.georgiaarchives.org. The current discussion concerning a place called Lake Jupiter has me a bit confused--as usual. I have kinfolk buried in a place called Juniper, Marion County, GA. Is there a Juniper as well as a Jupiter? Or do I have the wrong name for the location of the Juniper Cemetery? Help. Walt Boswell hogdu26@knology.net Montgomery, AL
Pat, Was the friend you mentioned in your story Edna Earl McCrae by any chance? If so I have been corresponding with her for years. Eddie (now Edna Earl McCannon) is a descendant of my great grandfather, William Berry Rowan, and I have many conversations with her about the Rowan family history. Your story about the trip to Lake Juniper is fabulous. I wonder if Eddie remembers. What a small world. Bill Rowan Schertz TX billandjo@msn.com ----- Original Message ----- From: ScottishLass26@aol.com To: GEORGIA-L@rootsweb.com Sent: Monday, August 11, 2003 1:20 PM Subject: [GEORGIA] Jupiter Lake I just pulled my pictures of Jupiter Lake taken in the 1940.s. This lake was about 25 miles from East Highland in Columbus. I don't remember the directions but we did go out Macon Road. Each summer we rented a cabin on the lake for a week and we would load up our clothes and food and go to the lake for a week of swimming, fishing and looking for Indian relics. We found many arrow heads, flints and old shells. As you entered the area to the lake, there was a small store that sold can goods, bread, milk, rented boats and carried fishing bait. The cabins were two and three rooms, one having a lot of bunks, one for eating and one for cooking. But the best coffee was what we cooked along the shore. We would build a fire and put our coffee and water on in a pot and brew it. Dad would settle the grounds boy putting a little cold water in it. Oh my, I can almost smell it now. And around midnight while fishing it was great. One year a good friend of mine went with us as guest. Her name was Edna Earl and both of us were about twelve and we went to the store and discovered that cigarettes sold for a penny a piece. Both being brave and devilish we bought five. That night she and I slipped up on the high hill in back of the cabin and sit among the pine trees and puffed. After the vacation, my father talked to me about it. I wondered how he knew. He explained that high on the hill in the darkness of night everyone on the lake could see the light of the cigarette. Then I waited for the worst to come but it was 30 minutes of talk on the evils of smoking. He warned me then, never to slip cigarettes. I still have some of the arrow heads and flints and the memories of many years of vacation on Jupiter. Edna Earl Thornton, if you read this please contact me. Would love to hear from you.
