Hi, this is my first posting. I have the following GA names, the first group: DOTY: STRINGER; WARREN Stringer and Warren were in Burke County, beginning in the 1780's. In 1805, Josiah Warren, was in Montgomery County and, later, Laurens County. Some of the members of this Warren family remained in each of these counties. My 3-g-grandfather, Benajah Warren, married Ferriba Stringer and migrated to Mississippi around 1820; my 3-g-grandfather, Noah Stringer, also, moved to MS during this time period. The Dotys and Warrens both came from Onslow County, NC to GA at about the same time. Josiah Warren married Nancy, daughter of Benajah Doty, in NC. I believe some of Benajah Doty's children remained there, as well, as migrating to other GA counties.. Second group: CAIN: GARMON; YANCEY: All three of these families were in Forsyth County, GA in the 1840's (or earlier) and possibly in neighboring Gwinnett County. My g-grandparents, John and Mary Garmon Cain, eventually migrated to Denton County, TX, where at least 2 of John's brothers had already located. The Cain family was Irish and possibly migrated to GA from PA. The Garmons were, also, in Alabama during this time. The Dotys, Stringers, Warrens and Yanceys have been well researched by others and I have added info to these records. However, I'm at a high brick wall on John Cain. But I would love to find fellow descendants of any of these families! I would like to contact Priscilla Turner who compiled the book, "Meriwether County, Georgia Cemeteries," 1993, The Reprint Company Publishers, Spartanburg, SC, Claire Bass who is listed as having read the inscriptions of the Copelen-Perry Cemetery along with Priscilla Turner, or anyone else who has knowledge or pictures of the inscriptions of this cemetery. I have questions about the Copelen-Perry cemetery listed on pgs 20-21 of her book and on pages 411-412 of Davidson's book "Brooks of Honey and Butter, Vol II." One question is about: Perry, Thomas A. d 5 Dec 1837 Aged 17 yrs 7 mos 10 days Is the "A" a misprint in the Meriwether County, Georgia Cemeteries book? Davidson's book "Brooks of Honey and Butter, Vol II," pg 412 records this inscription as Thomas J Perry. Thomas J Perry obituary in Columbus Enquirer 11 Jan 1838 supports the "J." My real confusion and questions deal with the inscriptions for the Anna Perry Copelen marker which unfortunately are not published in the Priscilla Turner "Meriwether County, Georgia Cemeteries" book. In Davidson's book Brooks of Honey and Butter, Vol II, pg 411-412, he gives 3 long inscriptions for Anna Perry Copelen marker which he says "The above quoted wording was 'signed' by her daughter, '[Mrs.] Joan W Shepherd, Dtr.'" "An inscription on the monument 'From her older daughter, Mrs. Susan H. Williams,' reads:"... " 'From her youngest daughter, Mrs Jane Magruder,' these words are inscribed:"... I would like to know the exact & correct wording on the marker. The brackets around Mrs are in Davidson's book and apparently are not on the marker. Does the inscription acually read "John W Shepherd" who was a known friend of the family? Are the names of the daughters really included on the markers along with the other inscriptions or was that information given by someone who thought they new who wrote the inscriptions? It would take a huge marker to have all the words (includes 2 poems) inscribed that are listed in Davidson's book. I have no references to any daughter named Joan W Shepherd in the William Perry 1837 will or Anna Perry Copelen 1856 will [Anna married #2 William B Copelen.] William Perry will only gives youngest child by name, but final estate distribution does not list a Joan Perry or Shepherd. In Anna Perry Copelen will she seems to make a point of naming all the children, even a step-daughter & sister. She names the daughters individually Susan W [not H] Williams, Jane W Magruder in more than one place and also says in another line "my two daughters.Susan W Williams and Jane W Magruder." I would really appreciate any help given in resolving these questions. I tried to find this cemetery myself several years ago while in Meriwether county, but did not have any luck. A road was closed due to a bridge being out & I felt like it was the road I needed. Thanks, Lindy Hard ssautyvalleyfarm@worldnet.att.net

No knowledge about Purcells here, but a question: But I'm looking for a possible marriage of my 3-great grandfather John McQuien to a woman named possibly Purcell or Presnell. I waffle between those two names because the name came down as a middle name in my mother's direct line of female descent that nobody quite knew how to spell (it's been spelled Presel and Prezel). There were a bunch of McQueens and Purcells living intermixed with each other in NC in the early censuses (around 1790-1810). I'm pretty sure that John McQuien was from NC, though I have no real evidence for that or much of anything else about him. He showed up in the 1840 census in Sumter County, GA, then so far as I can tell... disappeared. I believe that the Angus McQuien who served in the 11th Georgia Artillery Battalion (Sumter Flying Artillery) in the Confederate Army, was his son. His daughter Mary McQuien married John English Autry and was my 2-great grandmother. I have no idea why the fairly, but not absolutely, unique spelling, was employed for the McQueen name... and it seemed to drift in and out as a spelling in records. So far as I can tell yet, I think Angus survived the war and ended up in Arkansas many years later... but in between, he vanished. John English Autry and Mary McQuien vanished for awhile too. I have never found here they lived in 1860, but John English Autry did serve in a company of the 64th Georgia Infantry Regiment which was raised in Sumter Co., GA, and by 1870 the family was in Decatur (now Grady) County, GA. Do you know of any daughter of one of these Purcells who could have been John McQuien's wife?
