Never thought of that. This slows up your search some, but is most helpful in looking at the Georgia Death Index, Social Security Death Index, or searching Obituaries. You can then change it back when finished with your search by unchecking the same box. Hope this helps somebody who didn't know this. I always heard *sallow* used when describing someone with a grey/pale or sickly look .. just a thought. Norma Finch nlynnfinch@aol.com
I'm hoping to find my Georgia Lumpkin ancestors. I have two 'possibles' that may be my direct line. Perhaps someone on this mailing list will be able to help me. Who are GEORGE M. LUMPKIN and wife, MARY SMITH? They had a daughter (my great grandmother) ELLA FRANCES LUMPKIN, born October 6, 1860, in Georgia, possibly Houston or Bibb County. ELLA LUMPKIN married RUFUS EVANS TOUNSLEY on June 23, 1884 in Blue Springs, Florida. Her death certificate names George Lumpkin and Mary Smith, both "born in GA", as her parents. I have been unable to locate any information about these two people. The children of Ella and Rufus Tounsley were Garver (b1885), Samuel (b1890?), Albert (b1892), Hallie (B1896), Rufus (B1899) and Fannie Lucille (b1904). Fannie Lucille is my grandmother; all children were born in the greater Tampa, Florida area. I have found an ELLA LUMPKIN who was previously married to someone with the last name of DRIGGERS/DRIGGARS in GA 1880 census records. He must have died young and left her with two small children: Minnie born about 1877 and Daniel born about 1879, possibly both born in Bibb County, GA. If this is the same ELLA LUMPKIN, she did not take these two children to Florida when she married Rufus Tounsley; I have no further information on these two children. My research seems to verify that ELLA LUMPKIN's parents were GILBERT LUMPKIN and AMANDA V. BROWN not George M. Lumpkin and Mary Smith. Gilbert and Amanda Lumpkin are on the 1860 GA Census in the "Town District" of Houston County. Gilbert was 42 and an 'overseer' for Henry Jackson, a very wealthy farmer and slave owner (possibly the famous Henry Rootes Jackson, politician, statesman, judge, etc.). Amanda was 25 years old. Their children are George, age 3 and Ella, age 1. (Is this my g grandmother???) I cannot connect an ELLA FRANCIS LUMPKIN with the parents listed on her death certificate, GEORGE M. LUMPKIN and MARY SMITH. But I can link her to GILBERT LUMPKIN and AMANDA V. BROWN. I'd appreciate any help anyone can share on this family. Maybe I'm missing something and have it all wrong! Try - http://www.ancestry.com/search/rectype/inddbs/3172a.htm By entering Georgia for Birthplace, I got something like 471 returns. I didn't see a way to search by county, but you could narrow it by also entering the last name. Jackie: Since Georgia wasn't consistently requiring death certificates until the 1920s, I doubt there is a list of those who died by county from influenza in 1918, on or off the Web. And yes, it would be very nice if there were one. Yes it was a worldwide influenza. There is a very good book written about two years ago call "Flu". It killed so many of the military they had no who could dig the graves because so many died and the others were sick. My Mother said that someone drove a horse-drawn wagon crying " Dead, Dead any Dead" and people would bring them out and add to the load already on the wagon. She was 13 and no-one in her home had it. What a miracle. Barbara

Yes, it was world wide, I just wondered if Ga. had kept a record of the people who had died. It would be great if it was a list by counties. Jackie Hughey Smith
