    3. Please clarify about the book. This was the first e-mail I've seen about it. Can you tell my what family surnames are included? 2. Several questions from list members have moved me to go ahead and make an announcement. I am having a meeting with the publisher next Tues. Oct. 21 at the library in Zebulon. We will be setting up a computer and scanner in order to scan photos from those people who are reluctant to let us take their photos for any length of time. The publisher has indicated to me that he will be willing to extend the deadline for orders and photos one more time to the END OF DECEMBER. Please make a note of this as I don't know that they will give us anymore time. We have been working on this for a year and a half now--and the publisher has been involved for nearly a year himself. So if you have discovered any lingering photos that you have not contributed please send them on in. I must re-iterate--we are only publishing a limited number of books and taking pre-paid orders ONLY. If you do not order you will not be able to get a copy. Stephanie Bradley Sbrad1249@aol.com

    1. [GEORGIA] Locating author of a book.
    2. Hazel LeBlanc
    3. Shelia, The publisher's address should be in the front of the book, so try to get in touch with them, maybe they can tell you. A far off "cousin" had a book on my Shumate line and it had been out of print for years. The cousin sent me a copy of the front pages and the pages that had information on my line, but I wanted more. I looked the publishers address and phone number up online, then I called him. He gave me his e-mail address when I told him that others would also be interested in a 2nd printing of the book if he could do it. He was able to get in touch with the author and got his permission. We had to see how many people would actually buy the book to make it worth printing again, so I sent e-mail to everyone I had been in touch with, explaining I would not be gaining anything financially, but the more orders before printing would enable the publisher to sell the books at a lower price. We were successful in getting it done and I have my copy (:-}. Good luck, Hazel Researching: Anderson, Byrd, Dodson, Dove, Goodson, Hunt, Miley, Neal, Nichols, Moody, Patterson, Payne, Ratcliff, Ross, Rougeou, Shumate, Walker and Weaver

    1. Re: [GEORGIA] Baldwin County Question
    2. Chris, Go to any genealogical library having copies of Georgoa Genealogical Society's Quarterly Magazines. See Vol. 5 No. 3 (September 1969) page 238, "1820 Land Lottery, A List of Those Entitled to Draw" by Frank Parker Hudson Capt. Richard Talliaferro's District (115th GMD) was east of the Oconee River and originally in Washington County. Some of the area of the 115th was taken from Washington and put into Hancock County in 1793, and then added to Baldwin in December 1807, etc. etc. Frank Parker Hudson

    2. Jones Family
    3. Can someone tell me where Taliaferro's District and Milledgeville District were located in 1820-ish Baldwin County, GA? I am particularly interested in those districts as they related to Howard's District which today would be on/near the Toomsboro Hwy. This would be the the 329th GMD, also known as Fork District and Passmore District. In 1872 portions of this district were put into Baldwin County. Any insights greatly appreciated. Thank you. W. 1. [GEORGIA] Poindexter P. CARTER, Greene Co., 1852-1921
    2. Is there someone out there who might know something about the above gentleman. I started out helping a friend find out about an old house in Asheville, NC and now it is a search for this mans story. Here is what I know -- he was born in VA but his father moved the family to GA. Poindexter married someone from GA -- perhaps named Corrina. He had at least three daughters -- Mary E. (Gena) b. abt. 1888, Caroline L. (Carrie) b. abt. 1890, and Virginia L. b. avt. 1894. This family moved to Asheville abt.1917 or 1918. I think Corrina was with them at the time but by the 1920 census she is missing. Poindexter Page Carter was an artist and painted historical portaits -- Robert E. Lee for example. Several of his works are in SC buildings among other places. He died in Asheville May 6, 1921 and I have his obit. He was taken back to Greensboro, GA to be buried. His daughters continued to live in Asheville and were not married. Virgina died in 1933 and she was also taken back to Greensboro to be buried. Soon after that the other two girls disappear from Asheville. It is likely that he left no direct descendants. Supposedly Poindexter's father was James Monroe Carter. His obit says "Noted Artist Dies at Asheville Home" yet I can't find out much about him or his family. Can anyone help? Sandy
