I have been following with interest the message of delayed birth records. I just found a BIG ERROR in the 1900 Census of Hineston, Rapides Parish LA. John Dove, my great, great grandfather is listed with his deceased wife, Cassandrie Goodson Dove and two children, he had by the 2nd wife, the widow, Annie Eliza Dixon Walworth. Cassandrie died April 26, 1873 from smallpox. Hazel
On a recent research trip to Georgia State Archives I discovered Thomas Levirett received 200 acres of land in 1785 on the headrights of Robert Tucker. Does this mean that Levirett was related to Tucker? How could Levirett receive land on Tucker's headright if he was not a relative? Could he purchase this land from Tucker? Upon a review of the original warrant of Robert Tucker, I found nothing written on the back of the warrant giving Thomas Levirett right to the 200 acres. I understand this to mean the land named on the original warrant probably was not given to Thomas Levirett. My conclusion is that even though Thomas was authorized to have the land, he actually did not receive the 200 acres. Could someone verify or clarify this for me? Thank you for considering my request. He may have applied for social security. The social security application will (most of the time) name his mother with her maiden name and his father and tell what town he was born in. I believe they cost $29.00 now. All you need is his date of death. If you find his ss# that will help even more. You can go to ancestry.com and get to that page. Good luck.
My mother had to have one created, and her sister and school principal testified to her age. This was done when she had to apply for widows assistance. She was from a small town in Georgia.

My mother's brother was born in 1899, and the Census bureau ran a check on him, and provided a birth certificate. There is a charge, but could not be that much. Also if he signed for Social Security, they would have hd to have something and would have checked the census records etc, in order for him to draw it. Betty

I'm curious as to why you need a death certificate for someone who is 103 other than to prove he is truly that old. In that case I would think all of his peers/siblings, etc. were long gone. Do you have an old family Bible with the info? I have heard of them accepting a Bible as proof. Have you found him in the early census records to show his age. In census records, children under ten have the most accurate records of their age. God bless Him. He has seen a lot. I hope you have put a tape recorder by him and let him tell you of the "good old days".
This is interesting... The "rules" must have changed in the course of the war. My dad had to get a "delayed birth certificate" during WWII and as I recall, it was the draft board in Fort Myers, Florida, that reguired this... probably during 1942. Dad was born in Grady County, Georgia, in 1911. If you're trying to learn his birth information, this won't help you. In order to get a delayed birth certificate, YOU have to provide the information in the form of affidavits from people in a position to attest to the circumstances of the birth. These are usually provided by siblings, cousins, neighbors, etc. who were alive at the time of the birth and would know the date, location and names of parents. If you already have that information, you don't need a delayed certificate. -----Original Message----- From: Angel09853@aol.com [mailto:Angel09853@aol.com] Sent: Wednesday, January 14, 2004 11:05 PM To: GEORGIA-L@rootsweb.com Subject: Re: [GEORGIA] L D S Information In a message dated 1/14/2004 1:31:06 PM Central Standard Time, FPHUD@aol.com writes: > I had to have a created (delayed) birth certificate perhaps i could try that for my grandfather...he never had one either and was born 1900 ______________________________

The State of Georgia did not require recordings of Births and Deaths until 1921. I was born in 1918, and even though I spent 4.5 years in the Service during WWII, I had to have a created (delayed) birth certificate before I could get a passport in 1960. Birth and death records in Georgia are obtainable from Dept. of Health Offices.
