According to 1820 Federal census for Warren Co. GA, page 275, for Samuel Jackson household: Free White Males age 0-10 = 1 (child # 5, Ira G. Jackson b. about 1813) Free White Males age 16-26 = 1 (Hiram M. Jackson, child # 2 Free White Males age 45+ = 1 (himself) Free White Females age 0-10 = 1 (daughter Jackson, child # 4, b. between 1810-1820) Free White Females age 16-26 = 1 (daughter Jackson, child # 3, b. between 1794-1804) Free White Females age 45+ = 1 (wife Mary) Persons in Agriculture = 2 Female Slaves age 14-26 = 2 According to this census report, Samuel Jackson would have been born before 1775. He died sometime between 1820 and 1830 apparently, as older son Seaborn Robert (also in the census for this county in 1820) was appointed guardian of Ira G. Jackson. Samuel's wife's maiden name is unknown at this time. She is said in later census reports when she was living with son Ira G. Jackson, to have been born in Ireland. Does anyone have any information about Samuel Jackson's origins? And does anyone have any information about son Hiram M. Jackson? Any help greatly appreciated. Wanda Jackson Covey
Roswell King was a planter in Liberty and McIntosh Counties before moving to central Georgia to found the town of Roswell. I have found several references in other books to his Journals. I would like to find out where they are held or if published copies are available. He apparently kept detailed records of families and events in Coastal Georgia. Deborah Byrd

Look on the Soc Security Website <ssa.gov> and follow the links to the application for the SS-5; print it off and fill it out then mail it according to instructions provided, along with the proper fee, you will get a copy of the SS-5 in about 6 weeks...RR Retirement forms are housed in the same format...It helps if you have the SS or RR Number...Sometimes you can find it on the SS Death Index (SSDI) on Rootsweb... All this about creating a Delayed BC for a dead person is useless talk...you CANNOT get one unless the person filed before he died...but you might find a DC in the appropriate State Vital Records, if he died after about 1920 as you indicated...DC have the Parents (and Maiden names of the Deceased when it was a woman), provided the person who gave the information knew the answer...some blocks may say "unknown" indicating they were not knowledgeable of all the facts... Delayed BC are documents which were prepared and filed by a living individual to record the facts surrounding his/her birth...either because none was ever filed by the Doctor, or it was not required at the time the person was born...If one has been filed, you would find it when you asked for a BC from the Vital Records in the State where the person died...it is just a little different in format, but it looks like a regular BC... >From: "Kay\"s Email" <k5ash@bellsouth.net> >Reply-To: GEORGIA-L@rootsweb.com >To: GEORGIA-L@rootsweb.com >Subject: Re: [GEORGIA] L D S Information >Date: Fri, 16 Jan 2004 20:17:43 -0500 > >This was interesting as my Dad was born in 1886, in Alabama. My great Aunt also had this done. I have a copy of this.BeaWilson
Hi, I was wondering if anyone has census access if you would check the 1860 index for Byrd McElrath. He was born in Murray County, Ga, in 1849. His family was there in 1850. In 1870 he was by himself in Arkansas, working for a farmer. I haven't been able to find him in 1860. He might be listed as John B. McElrath, and would have been 11 years old in 1860. Thanks in advance. Jayme
I have seen something similar in my research. One never knows who gives the enumerator the information that goes on the census. That's why it's always best to use the census as a guide and research from there if at all possible. This was interesting as my Dad was born in 1886, in Alabama. I took his application for Social Security, his death certificate, my birth certificate, and other information to the Social Security office, and they did nothing for me! I'll check with the Census Bureau as you quoted. I'm the only one left in the family, and trying to obtain as much as I can on his side of the family. Thanks.
