Hope that someone can confirm or correct name on line 14 "Feriba", that's the best I can determine, and judging by age it is female. For my needs, I've listed age next to the person whom I believe to be the head of household. Welcome corrections and/or additions. Kathleen Burnett List Mom -------- Original Message -------- Date: Sun, 25 Jan 2004 10:32:47 -0700 From: William Rowan <billnjo@sbcglobal.net> To: GEORGIA-L@rootsweb.com Reposting this info in the hope that someone can help. Berry Rowan married Millicent (Millie) Henderson in Forsythe Co GA in 1843. I am trying to determine if this Berry Rowan is my GGrandfather William Berry Rowan. There is no record of WBR's whereabouts from 1836 to 1848. He was indentured to a traveling wheewright by his mother around the age of 12 and was not heard of again until 1848 when he showed up in Coffee/Clinch Co GA on the farm of Josiah Sirmans. WBR married Rose Anne Porter Mullis in GA in 1850 and proceeded to have 10 children with her with a pecadillo that resulted in two other children with Catherine Jones Hunter. His children with Rose Anne stretched from 1851 to 1871. His iwo boys with Catherine were born in 1865 and 1867. Any help with the Henderson connection would be greatly appreciated. I see now that your Rootsweb mailing list is a RACIST, as well as a RACE-DISCRIMINATING mailing list. This has diminished my faith and respect for the Rootsweb mailing lists, in general. I am NOT a racist! I am caucasian, but I have many, many black friends. Furthermore, I have helped numerous black people on other Rootsweb lists to trace their lineage, as well as people who have heard about my expertise and contacted me personally. Your group continually states that white Southerners do not want them to trace their roots and are looking for ways to hinder them--this is preposterous, and nothing could be further from the truth! On the many Rootsweb lists to which I belong, when a black person requests help, numerous (white) people jump at the chance to assist them. We ALL WANT TO HELP you because we know your research is even more difficult than our own. It is persons like yourself and like SOME on your list GA-AfricaAmer-L@rootsweb.com who wish to continue the racial strife in this country by your negative inuendos and venomous remarks. As long as this poison is spread, there will, indeed, be racial tension, and you will never realize the full potential that white assistance can render in your research. I wish all of you well and truly hope you will one day realize that not all Southern white people, or white people in general, are the enemy. I have an original book signed by J.D. FRY, given to his friend Miss Fannie HOLDERBY, the book apparently was named "Stepping Heavenward" by E. Prentiss, this was apparently in 1869 - I also have a will dated July 20, 1795 of Samuel DAVIS, executrix Ann WRIGHT, names verifying her are Samuel WRIGHT, Samuel MATTHEWS, Harry COLLINS, Richard BLOW - in the book are names mentioned, Mrs. FRY of Jersey City, Mrs. Winthrey from Brooklyn, J. E. ELLIOTT - other books listed as by this author are: "Flower of the Faily", the "Susy Books", "Little Lous Sayings and Doings." I am looking for some history on these books/people or someone that may be researching them, they are not my line. P.S. The will is an original. I guess I should say a family member has the original copies. delilah evans ----- Original Message ----- From: "Peggy Chapman" <churchlady@tds.net> To: <GEORGIA-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Thursday, January 22, 2004 10:24 PM Subject: Re: [GEORGIA] FRY > > There was a sheriff in Polk County, Tennessee named Fry or Frye at one > time. Here's a link to Benjamin Franklin Fry, a soldier and gospel minister, who was born in Wilkes Co. GA, died in Texas, is buried at Jeddo, in Bastrop County, TX. His grave is marked by the state of Texas as an early patriot, who served in the 1830s in the Texas war for independence from Mexico. His father, also named Benjamin, owned land in Wilkes and Franklin Counties as early as 1785. Harold Hopkins http://www.tsha.utexas.edu/handbook/online/articles/view/FF/ffr17.html
There was a sheriff in Polk County, Tennessee named Fry or Frye at one time. I believe he is buried in Ducktown, Tennessee at the Methodist cemetary. I was told this by someone a few years ago. That is all I know. If you check the Polk County, Tennessee gen web, you can probably find his first name. Hope this is a lead for you. There were lots of Fry in Lincoln/Alexander/Cataewba and other counties in NC
I am African American and do not celebrate Dixie Day either. That being said, I recognize and respect the choice of others who choose to celebrate it. We are still fighting the Civil War in Georgia, but this list is not the forum to debate the merits of either position. Could we please get back to exchanging genealogical information? Is that not the purpose of this particular LISTSERV? ListMom, where are you?????? Sylvia Ryce Cornell
