Hi.... I am wondering if someone could help me...I am starting to research Hannah Lulu Spells Bagley, the wife of Riley Bagley and later Thaddeus Tanner..... I am wondering if anyone knows if this woman was the daughter of James and Sarah Bagley Spell or Spells..... Hannah was born abt Sept of 1868 in GA...she married Riley Bagley around 1880....and from what little I have researched so far...this is their children: Lucy, James B., Riley H., Daniel, Nathan, and Allie..... Appreciate any help in figuring this out....and thank you for any help.... Stephanie Grohol
Let's go back to the olden days of RESPECTING TEACHERS, ADULTS, and all persons of Authority. We Feared the thought of a Teachers rage-[with the *BIG FAT YARD STICK*]! Of being sent to the Principals office, but Most of All... The "A**-Whipping's", by at least three or four of the *Neighbor Ladies*, or your *Aunt*, Grandma, or others, on your long walk home thru the neighborhood..."Then MOMMA"...!! All the mothers, I think said the same thing, "How dare you embarrass the family, and your' mother !!! Yes, I would appreciate it greatly if you could send me a copy. I cut and pasted the email you sent so that you knew what I am referring to. Seeking maiden name of Elizabeth B., wife of James A.J. Tidwell, who lived in the Line Creek District of Spalding County 1870 & 1880. Also would like to find their marriage date (between 1860 and 1870). Both are buried at County Line Christian Church in Fayette County, just a few hundred feet from the Spalding County line. James, b. 1836, d. 1915, was the son of John J. Tidwell and his first wife, Nancy Camilla Byram (Birom in Coweta marriage records). I don't remember any Jeffries off the top of my head. And for the life of me I can't remember Tuggle's first name although I can remember his cohort, LL Wyatt. I do remember both as being very tall and everybody thought they were very good sheriffs. For all who are interested, I just saw a sign in front of the Georgia Archives on Jonesboro Road in Morrow where they are having a used and rare book sale on Thu and Fri, Nov 3 & 4. Sorry I did not get the hours. The earliest dates back to 1861. I don't know who has them now, since they are renovating the building. Hopefully this will help a lot of Greene County researchers.

Hi... First off...thank you all for the help that you have given me in my family research....appreciate all the help... Now I am asking for help again.... I am trying to find William Spell (born Jan 1866, in Ware Co, GA)....and his wife, Annie (or Anna or Eliza) born abt Jul 1874, GA, in the 1920 Ware Co, GA Census.....and I am having no luck finding them.....I found them in 1900 and 1910...but I can't find them in 1920.....sighs.... They should have the following children with them in 1920: William, the father, age would be abt 51 yrs old and their mother, Annie/Anna/Eliza, age abt 49..... J. T. age abt 21? Irene, age abt 18 James, age abt 16 Cora, age abt 13 Pearl or Pearly, age abt 2 May have more children...not sure..... I have tried everything I can think of on the spelling of the last name....even tried searching under the first name and doing an approximation on their date of birth....no luck.... I am not sure when they died....at least not yet....I am going to assume that they are still living in Ware co, in 1920..... Would appreciate any help....and thank you for any help that can be given..... Stephanie Grohol
Lanelle, The surnames from the Greene Co area are, Tuggle and Jeffries. I am descended from Capt. Lodowick Tuggle, and his wife, Dorothy Lee. Lodowick was in the American Revolution in VA and moved to the Greene, Oglethorpe and Wilkes County area abt 1791. His will is in Oglethorpe. I think most of the Tuggles from that area are descended from Lodowick, so your sheriff in the 50's was probably a relative that I don't know. Dorothy Lee's sister, Esther Lee, married William Jeffries. They also moved from VA to Greene / Wilkes Counties. Some of the children from the sisters married each other. Robert Tuggle married Elizabeth Jeffries and Nancy Tuggle married William Jeffries, Jr. They all moved to Jasper Co, GA. Then my line continues with Rebecca Tuggle, dau of Robert and Elizabeth who married her double first cousin, Bolin S. Jeffries, son of William and Nancy. My tree doesn't branch off much for a few generations. =0) Anyway, Bolin and his family later moved to Russell Co, AL and Muscogee Co, GA. Alabama Power had records of the graves that were covered or moved when the Coosa River was backed up for Weiss Dam. N.E. Alabama Genealogical Society members transcribed those records. It is possible that there may be records available from TVA or Georgia Power, depending on the area flooded. Most of the records we saw were letters to family members and notes from those contacting the families. Some very good information, since some graves had no markers but through information given by family members and the older members of the community many unmarked were identified. RoseMary

Thanks so much for sharing your interesting website with us. I enjoyed the tour of 'Beautiful Old Homes' in COLUMBUS, GA. and in particular, seeing the home of famous author, CARSON SMITH McCULLER and the informative historic plaque by the home. Carson is a descendent of HENRY HYER SMITH [b. 1807 in VT; died in Union Springs, AL in 1885], "one of the most prominent pioneers of UNION SPRINGS, AL". Henry's grandson, LAMAR SMITH, SR, [1890-1944; married to Vera Marguerite Waters], was Carson's father. I would like to correspond with anyone interested in this SMITH family line. "The bungalow-style house built in the early 1920s was purchased by Lamar Smith, in 1926 when McCullers -- then Lula Carson Smith -- was just 9 years old. The home and the neighborhood became fodder for McCullers' stories and novels, which brought her worldwide recognition." "The house is now Columbus State University's Carson McCullers Center for Writers and Musicians."
