    1. [GEORGIA] Joel Gresham in Cooks District?
    2. Hi, I ran across a small puzzle recently. Joel C. GRESHAM is listed in the 1900 GA Census (age 34), with a wife (Lula) and 4 children. He was a weaver, presumably at the Atlanta Cotton Mills. By 1907, Lula was listed as a widow in the City Directory, but her (dead) husband's name was given as "Andrew J. Gresham." Since she also had a son named Arthur J. Gresham, this may just be confusion on someone's part. I tried to find a record for Joel Charles GRESHAM in Garrett's Necrology, but nothing that fit. And the GA Death Index doesn't kick in until 1919. So, just asking if anyone has ever "run into" him...he would have been rather young when he died. By the way, Garrett's very useful compilation has now been made available (online), by the AHC, at: http://garrett.atlantahistorycenter.com/ Best Allen

POSS.WADEREYNOLDS/RUNNELS/MALONE Well, this is the thought that came to my head after reading your posting. My Lewis Cookson Davis served in the Revolutionary War and on his pension application he stated that he was born in Hanover County, VA. He married Sarah Anderson and he with her family moved to Wilkes County, GA. That family intermarried with other Wilkes County, GA families that came from Granville, NC. After many years of research by many of Old Lewis' descendents, we have come to the conclusion that the Davis family in Granville, NC is the same as Lewis Cookson Davis' in Hanover, Va....they connect. So, after saying that.....look at Granville, NC. Just a thought. 3. 05DEC06 Greetings MISS. ANDREA: LIST: As far as we know All of our' *MONTGOMERY'S* were in ALABAMA by-(circa- 1830)! That is our Brick wall; we have NOT been able to confirm which of the "MONTGOMERY SON'S" Are of "whom we spring from"? What we know: (1)- The Below *CHARLES MONTGOMERY* - (b. JACKSON COUNTY, GA-circa- 1795- 1870) - Has signed Documents in "TUSCALOOSA COUNTY, AL" - as-"CHARLES"-as "JAMES'-and as "JMC"?? (2)- Several Alabama Documents, and CENSUS' show where he list his Father as -*JAMES MONTGOMERY* - of JACKSON COUNTY, GA.! (3)- He was a Long Time Close Friend and Neighbor-[in Alabama] of Our' gggrandfather -*REV. JOHN HINTON*- (b. JOCO, NC- circa- 1790-1843)! (4)- Our' gggrandmother- *EASTER (MONTGOMERY)- HINTON* - (b. GA- circa- 1797-1870) - was said to be His--- "SISTER" ---, or other Close Relative?? (5)- *CHARLES MONTGOMERY* - Was the "Administrator/ Executor" - for our' *JOHN HINTON* Estate @ His death in - (1843)-! What we have been told and seen in our' Short time in Researching, is that the "EXECUTOR" - [back then] was generally a Family Member, or a very Close friend. *CHARLES* and *EASTER MONTGOMERY*, were Apparently Very Close, Because after Our' *JOHN HINTON'S* DEATH, there were Several Mentions of Him taking Care of *EASTER* and the Family! The problem has been that the Names- *CHARLES* and *EASTER* - DO NOT Fit The Children of - either *JAMES MC* nor *HUGH MONTGOMERY*, unless they used Middle Names?? What do you know of the other *MONTGOMERY FAMILIES* in "JACKSON COUNTY, GA.?? Seems like we saw a "CENSUS" or other Document where there were -Three (3) JAMES MONTGOMERY??? Do you know anyone with the "MONTGOMERY-DNA PROJECT"; We are interested in the "DNA TESTING", But with Limited Funds, Can Not afford it? We are *MONTGOMERY* on three (3) - sides: (A)- *RUBY FRANCES (MONTGOMERY) -AYERS* - (b. AL- 1918) - [Our' Mother] - *HOMER MONTGOMERY* - (b. circa 1880-1920?) & *NAOMIE (HINTON) -MONTGOMERY* -(b. AL- cira-1888-1953! (B)- The above *EASTER (MONTGOMERY) -HINTON*! (C)- And by the Inter- Marriage Of- *JOHN MONTGOMERY* - (b-NC- circa 1785-1870) & *MARGARET (BEGGET) - MONTGOMERY* - [Both of MECKLINBURG/ CHARLOTTE, NC] - A Great Uncle - [HINTON] - Married one of His Daughters!!! What ever Intel or Light you may shed on this Brick wall would be greatly appreciated. 3. Montgomery was an artificer under the command of George Gilmer in 1813 when ordered to Standing Peachtree on the Chattahoochee River to build Fort Peachtree. This was a federal project intended to build boats to float supplies down the river to troops at Fort Mitchell (Columbus) who were fighting the Creek Indians in Alabama. Although five boats were built, no supplies ever survived the river to reach Fort Mitchell, and the project was abandoned. Although Montgomery campaigned to have the fort remain open, he was unsuccessful. Montgomery moved his family from Jackson County to Standing Peachtree in 1819, while it was still Indian territory. The area was part of Fayette County in 1821, then became part of DeKalb when it was organized in 1822. Montgomery remained at Standing Peachtree until his death on 6 Oct 1842. As far as I know Andrew Jackson never came to DeKalb. Vivian Price Saffold At 09:28 PM 12/5/2006, Ayers, B. J. wrote: > > > >---------- >From: Ayers, B.
