    3. 01JAN2008 BILL; GREETINGS AGAIN; Which *BROWN* Line do you come from??? We are looking for a-*JOHN ERWIN BROWN-(b.VA or NC-circa-1760)-and ELIZABETH [???]-BROWN* ---son of *JOHN BROWN-(b.circa-1740)-and ELIZABETH (ERWIN)-BROWN*--[Nothing is known]!!! Most researchers believe the Extended families migrated down the *Great PHILY Wagon Road from the-AUGUSTA/AMHERST areas of Western VIRGINA* to the "ROWAN/ MECKLINBURG/ CHARLOTTE, NC" areas-(circa-1760)!!! About the time of the REV.WAR they migrated on over into eastern GEORGIA-[AUGUSTA/ WILKES areas]!! We have seen "BROWN/ HINTON & MONTGOMERY" families there as early as-(1775), but unknown if it is these families???? The last we know is that they were in the *ROWAN/ MECKLINBURG, NC areas about (mid- 1760's)*???? As before there appears to be--"Two Distinct-BROWN-lines"; that went from "NC" to "GA"!!! (1)- Most Researchers believe came down the "GREAT PHILY WAGON ROAD" from western VIRGINIA-[AUGUSTA/ AMHERST areas], to the ROWAN/ MECKLINBURG, NC areas! (2)- The other-[Unknown-BROWN- group] - were in the "ALBERMARLE DISTRICT/ CHOWAN/ GATES, [coastal] NORTH CAROLINA" areas- (about- 1715) - with our'-"HINTON/ MONTGOMERY-- HARDY/ HARGROVE/ LANE/ SMITH and Robertson's", prior to migrating-(about-1760) - on over to the "JOCO/ WAKE/ RALIEGH, NORTH CAROLINA" areas, to points west, and then on to "GEORGIA"??? Any Intel is greatly appreciated. THANKS & GOD BLESS A HAPPY & BLESSED NEW YEAR SEMPER FI BA- In North GA!! One BROWN-Line Migrated with our' HINTONS- from "JAMESTOWNE, VA" to "CHOWAN/ GATES, NC,-(circa-1700-1715), "JOCO/ WAKE/ RALIEGH, NC"-(circa- 1760), "Unknown Counties, GEORGIA"-(circa- post REV.WAR-1800<<<)-, and then again to the "TUSCALOOSA, AL.areas"-(by-1820)!!! The Other BROWN-line migrated from the "PHILY/ LANCASTER, PA" areas to the---- "ROWAN/ SALSBURY" and MECKLINBURG/ CHARLOTTE,[WAXHAWS], NC" areas- (circa-1760-1770), to "UNKNOWN Counties, GEORGIA"- ( post REV.WAR-1800), and again to "ALABAMA"!!! 3. Please do not open up another discussion, I don't have Gerald Geiger's email and I just wanted to say thank you to him Gerald: I applaud you in the stand you took regarding your children I have 3 whom I said "I Do Accept you as my children" when I married their father. If I could not do this, I should not have married their father. They and their stories are included in my genealogy. My program allows me to show they are "step, adopted, etc.". However in real life, we never use the term "step". Their father, my husband, died on Nov 26. They were the most helpful children anyone could ask for when their father died. They continue to check on me even though they live great distances away and have treated me no different than before. How blessed I am - they will always be "my" children Wanda -----Original Message----- From: georgia-bounces@rootsweb.com [mailto:georgia-bounces@rootsweb.com]On Behalf Of Gerald Gieger Sent: Saturday, November 24, 2007 11:49 AM To: georgia@rootsweb.com Subject: Re: [GEORGIA] In name only I have read all these replies and opinions and it calls to mind a story told by my late wife, in regard to her "Cousins" and her Grandmother... It seems that her Grandmother made a point of introducing her natural grandchildren as her "Real Grandchildren" and the others as her "Adopted Grandchildren." While she could have meant no harm, those Adopted Grandchildren were cut to the heart by the segregation and favoritism which she exhibited... We have five natural children, one which we adopted at birth and another which we became guardians of when she was nine...When I stood in that courtroom before a Judge, I took an oath stating that I would accept and treat that baby as if he had been born by blood... and that I understood that he would share in my estate in a greater measure than my blood children in that he could NEVER be disinherited. I raised him, I nurtured him, I provided for him, and he IS my son just the same as the others, all of whom I love, equally and dearly. I did not have to take him, I CHOSE to take him. He has produced one grandson and I have one other grandson who is adopted, but they carry our family name, just the same. I molded them into the persons that they are. I am an officer of SRT, belong to NSSAR, and several other lineage organizations, and it hurts me that "blue-bloods" cannot condescend to create a special category that would allow admission of those lifelong children to membership, when most of them have a like situation within their own families, albeit it may have been hidden for many years...even some multiracial products of philandering grandparents. It amazes me how cold-hearted and aloof we become when we begin thinking we are somebody...I agree with Bonnie. His name was John Morton he arrived in Georgia from the United Kingdom in September 1941 to train as a pilot with the USAAF under the Arnold Scheme. He was first based at Souther Field, Georgia and one of his instructors was called Wallace Bacon Sheffield Whilst the cadets were undergoing training many local families would "adopt" a cadet and take him into their homes at week ends etc just to try to give some kind of family life to these boys who were so far from home. The family who adopted my uncle also shared the same surname of Morton I have a book in my possession which was given by Will and Louise Morton to my uncle when he left the USA to come back to the UK, the only thing I know is their names and that they lived at Greys. I believe he used to write to a girl in Georgia and that when the war was over he intended going back to the USA I am trying to trace any members of the family in the hope they may have some information or photos of my uncles time there I know this is not much to go on but I would greatly appreciate any help you can give to me. Sadly my uncle was killed in action in November 1943 aged 23 years Best wishes Kathryn Trainer

    2. This might lead to more information. I hope so. In the 1930 census there is a William Morton age 47 , farmer, living in Gray, Jones County, Georgia. In that household are his wife, Louise H Morton age 24, school teacher, and Marie Mddlebrooks, 19 yrs, servant, negro. In Highview Cemetery in Jones County (_http://www.friendsofcems.org/Jones/default1.htm?SQL.asp?CemNumber=55&,2_ (http://www.friendsofcems.org/Jones/default1.htm?SQL.asp?CemNumber=55&,2) ), there are: William Jewett Morton born Nov 15, 1882 died Jun 23, 1968 Louise Hodges Morton born Mar 24, 1905 died Jan 22, 1993. Louise is listed as being a member of the DAR which means a gold mine of information will be available for you on her line anyway. Check out the other Morton's in that cemetery and I think you will find parents and grandparents which might give clues to find living decendants.
