    2. Ayers, B. J.
    3. 11JAN08 HEY JAN GREETINGS, we are descended from AYERS/HINTON/MONTGOMERY/BROWN & "FOSTER", entered GEORGIA after the REV.WAR!! they presumable migrated into and thru "AUGUSTA/ WILKES" areas, we have seen them all over North GA, but have YET, made Connections!!! Most of ours' migrated again-(circa-1818-20) to the Tuscaloosa, AL. areas!!! What ever you have, it would be greatly appreciated, and we would share what we have thus far, as we are kinda new at this. BA- In north GA!! We have seen the name- *PRUDENCE* with our *HINTON* way back in NORTH CAROLINA, but not during the "GEORGIA YEARS"!! There are some *GREEN/ GREENLEE" with these HINTONS" also...we will look back, you never know!! "GOD BLESS YOUR BROTHERS FOR THEIR SERVICE TO THIS GREAT NATION, AND YOU AS THEIR STRENGTH"! WE HAVE FORWARDED YOUR' INTEL TO A *FOSTER* FRIEND OF OURS!! HE IS AN OLD PRO!! -----Original Message----- From: Jan Thurmond [mailto:jannt@comcast.net] Sent: Wednesday, January 09, 2008 10:10 AM To: Ayers, B. J. Subject: Fosters - Ferrymen Mr. Ayers, My 2nd great-grandfather, David B. Foster, was a ferryman in Chattahoochee Co., GA, in the 1860 census. About his ancestry, I know only that his mother's name was Prudence; that she was head of household in the 1850 DeKalb Co., GA census, with 3 sons living with her - Green Foster, about 17 years old; David B. Foster, about 15 years old; and Francis Marion Foster, about 9 years old. In 1853, David married Nancy Jane Morgan in DeKalb Co., and the entire Foster - Morgan group were in Chattahoochee and/or Stewart Cos. in 1860. I know nothing about the father in this Foster family....I SUSPECT that Prudence's maiden name might have been Green - mainly because the oldest son with her in 1850 was named "Green Foster" and because in the 1870 Chattahoochee Co., GA census, after all 3 of her sons had died in the War Between the States, she was living next door to a man named Henry Green, who was a couple of years older than she (her age was about 70).....I suspect this man was her brother, but have no proof. I have searched counties in east GA for a marriage license for any Foster man marrying a woman named Prudence in the 1830s, but have found none. I have no indication of the given name of Prudence's husband....David B. Foster (her son and my 2nd great-grandfather) fathered 2 sons - the eldest, John Foster, born about 1856 in Chattahoochee Co.; and Matthew Barringer Foster (my maternal grandmother's father), born about 1859 in Chattahoochee Co.; and a daughter named Frances, born about 1861. It is POSSIBLE that David B. named his eldest son after his father - John - I do not know. Nor do I know from whence came the names "Matthew," "Barringer" or "Frances." An archivist at the GA State Archives told me that those given names were very popular in coastal Virginia and that the Foster family COULD have originated there. Do any of these names sound familiar to you? I would love to know just where to look for my Fosters before 1850.....none of the DeKalb Co. nor Henry Co., GA, records give me any indication of the name of the husband/father in this Foster family, nor of where they came from. I have read many of your postings on rootsweb....I remember your messages, for my 2 youngest brothers served in the Marine Corps during the 1960s - one spent 2 tours of duty in Viet Nam in 1967-68. Sincerely, Janice Newton Thurmond, Marietta, GA

    3. Hmmm. . . There are two Emma Parks indexed who died in Gwinnett. The other one has a middle initial "M", which didn't seem to fit, but here's the information on her, in case the first one was not the wife of Jesse: Emma M. Parks - died March 2, 1954 in Gwinnett, at age 80, Certificate #5998. I dismissed her earlier because I knew your Emma's middle name began with an "O", and her maiden name began with a "C". Still - you never know. It's possible that she had another middle name - or that the informant didn't really know. There are many other Emma Park and Parks indexed who resided/died in other counties, but only those two in Gwinnett. As I recall, even though her age was off by a couple of years, the Emma Childers with father John and mother (stepmother?) Sarah was the only one who was enumerated as "Emma O." Portions of the Georgia Death Index are posted on several websites. I personally use the database at Ancestry. Good luck! 3. Thanks Linda, I had Jesse's dd from the cemetery database but I didnt have one for Emma (according to the Gwinnett Co deaths there was no dd on her stone but Im going up to Fairview Presby this weekend to check on some things)...thats an interesting date for her because I was talking to one of her granddaughters last nite and she told me Emma lived for a very long time after Jesse died...so I need to do some more investigating. Where did you find the death cert numbers? (Its been awhile since I did Gwinnett Co research and I wasnt aware there was an index available anywhere) I found John and Sarah Childers after I sent the email out yesterday and have been trying to verfiy these were indeed Emma's parents. He could very well be of the same family as our' *JOHN & ELIZABETH (ERWIN)-BROWN-(b.circa-1740)*---father of our'- *JOHN ERWIN BROWN-(b-NC or VA-circa-1760)??? Our' JOHN ERWIN BROWN married [in NC?] a lady named- [*ELIZABETH* ????]-two known kids. (1)- JOHN ERWIN-[jr] ----- (2) - MARY POLLY- Both born in GEORGIA-(circa-1800)??? MARY POLLY (BROWN) and *CHARLES MONTGOMERY-(b.GA-circa-1795)*- married in Unknown County, GA"-(before-1820??). We know so very little about our BROWN Family, except that most researchers believe that they came from "VIRGINIA" to the "MECKLINBURG/ ROWAN/ CHARLOTTE, NC" areas, by - (about-1760)---No Intel about "Any Siblings" of *JOHN or ELIZABETH(ERWIN)-BROWN* , except her father was a JOHN ERWIN-[wilkes,ga]?? Migrated to Unknown County, GEORGIA-(probably after the REV.WAR)?? Most researchers think that--- "JOHN ERWIN [jr] and MARY POLLY BROWN"-were born some where in GEORGIA?? The one fact is that they were in the "TUSCALOOSA, ALABAMA" areas-(1819- 1823)!!! Witnessed-The marriage of our *JOHN HINTON & ESTER (MONTGOMERY)-HINTON*!! ESTER (MONTGOMERY) was the sister of *CHARLES MONTGOMERY* who married *MARY POLLY (BROWN)*!!! Good Luck in your search for the Mysterious family of BENJAMIN BROWN!!! As before our' JOHN ERWIN BROWN-(b.VA or NC-circa-1760)-son of "JOHN-(b.circa-1740) & ELIZABETH (ERWIN)-BROWN" are listed by most, as being from the- *AUGUSTA/ AMHERST Counties, VIRGINIA*, but some say he was from the- "Coastal VIRGINA Areas"??? We have done a little Digging in the "AUGUSTA, VIRGINA" areas, and found that "ORANGE COUNTY, VA" was made from "AUGUSTA COUNTY", which originally was like a Super County before being Sliced Up!! Most agree that the family came down the Great PHILY Wagon Road from---"PA"--,VIRGINA to the "ROWAN/ MECKLINBURG/ CHARLOTTE, NC" areas,-[circa- 1760] - then into eastern GEORGIA-[AUGUSTA/ WILKES], etc--- (REV.WAR YEARS->>>>)!!!! 3. Not in my files, Shannon, but check Joseph and Sallie Parks (indexed as Park) in 1880 Gwinnett County, Goodwins District and John and Sarah Childers in 1880 Lawrenceville. Of course, to verify, you'd want to order their death certificates: Jesse J. Parks, died 2 July 1938, in Gwinnett, Certificate #18119. Emma Parks died September 20, 1945, in Gwinnett, Certificate #20127.
