    1. [GA] new list home - Georgia-genealogy
    2. Timothy Stowell
    3. A new home for the Georgia list has been set up. Later today, I'll send out personal invitations to the subscribers of this list. It should be a link you can click that will let you 'accept' the invitation to join the new group. You may need to check your spam folder as I can't say when such will be delivered. Of course, folks may still post to this list through 3/1. Tim Stowell list admin

    1. [GA] status of Georgia list 2020
    2. Timothy Stowell
    3. This past weekend I noticed that this list named Georgia was listed by Rootsweb as being inactive. I asked that it be re-activated so that people subscribed here would be able to participate in discussions regarding Georgia as relates to genealogy or history. As of this morning, the list has 233 subscribers. Notice from Rootsweb - Beginning March 2nd, 2020 the Mailing Lists functionality on RootsWeb will be discontinued. Users will no longer be able to send outgoing emails or accept incoming emails. Additionally, administration tools will no longer be available to list administrators and mailing lists will be put into an archival state. Administrators may save the emails in their list prior to March 2nd. After that, mailing list archives will remain available and searchable on RootsWeb. As an alternative to RootsWeb Mailing Lists, Ancestry message boards are a great option to network with others in the genealogy community. Message boards are available for free with an Ancestry registered account. Hosted Sites and WorldConnect will continue to be up, running and maintained. Thank you for being part of the RootsWeb family and contributing to this community. -------------------------------------------- That said, I've created a new home for this list, and will speak to this shortly in another note to the list. 1. [GA] From the List Owner
    2. David E. Cann
    3. Hello folks, and welcome back to RootsWeb's newly upgraded list system. If you are receiving this post it is because you are still a subscriber to this list, even though things have been pretty quiet due to a number of issues lately. The lists are back now, and I believe you will like the improvements that have been made. The most obvious improvement is a new RootsWeb login system, which you will find at the following link: http://home.rootsweb.ancestry.com/listindexes/setupmail Only one account per person is needed, and once you have created it you will be able to organize and manage all of your list subscriptions in one handy location. Like anything new there will be something of a learning curve in the beginning, but I really think you will like it for the new security and personalization features for your list subscriptions. And last but not least, please note my email address as List Owner immediately below this message and following my name. Also note the "List information" link below that, which will take you to the information page for this list, where you will find information to help you subscribe, unsubscribe, and some other things based on the current status of your new log in account. I welcome you back to the list, and look forward to working with you in the future tracking down our elusive ancestors. David E. Author: carollpowelll Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.northam.usa.states.georgia.unknown/7899.4/mb.ashx Message Board Post: I find George Wood married Mary Black in Jackson, Georgia? Georgia, Marriages George Wood Marriage Date: 05 Aug 1858 Place: Jackson, Georgia, Spouse's Name: Mary Black Texas, Deaths Mattie Wood Oliver Event Type: Death Date: 04 Feb 1947 Place: Big Spring, Howard, Texas, Gender: Female Marital Status: Married Birth Date: 29 Mar 1860 Birthplace: Georgia Father's Name: J O Wood Mother's Name: Mary Black Often the best place to find where someone was from is to start with where they died. Your family story is waiting to be found. I suggest getting death certificates and obituaries. Both should have parents' names and obit may have exact birthplace and surviving siblings which can be a BIG help. If you know where they married then get their marriage record. If you know what cemetery these people are buried in their headstones should give birth and death dates. If you know what church they were members of or where they are buried check with each to see what may be in their records on them. You might try www.familysearch.com; findagrave.com; Family Finder at FTDNA.com Newspapers are archived on microfilm in public libraries and local historical societies. Go to google newspaper archives. The obits come right after the stock exchange and want ads. If you can visit a Family History Ctr, you can order microfilm from LDS in Salt Lake City. http://www.gwest.org/gen_libs.htm NOTE - T! here is a 20 yr. gap in the census records [1880 - 1900] as the 1890 census was destroyed by fire. http://www.genlookups.com/obit_archives.htm Happy hunting for those lost relatives. http://genealogytrails.com/tex/panhandle2/howard/ Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list.
