John and Robert George came to the colonies July 7, 1635 on the ship Assurance and brought 250 families with them. John George was married to Jane Cole. At the time he was 19 years old. A researcher in Reading, England said they were the Gorges and sent proof that they used the name Gorges and George interchangeably. However I have no proof that they did so. They made several trips back to Bristol, England. John George was in the House of Burgesses as well as George Fawdon. Robert George married Sarah Elliott (Elmore) in Virginia. I know this goes back a ways but it would be greatly appreciated if anyone had any information on this line.
