He began acquiring land by grant and deed in present day Tazewell County, as early as 1795. He also owned building lots in Jeffersonville (town of Tazewell) in 1800 and owned a drygoods and general store called "George and Co." He left a large estate at his death in 1810. He was married to Jane/Jennet PATTON (daughter of Henry PATTON and Martha RANDOLOPH) in 1793. Jane/Jennet PATTON died in 1820. In the 1850 census, he was living in the household of his brother Harvey. SECOND GENERATION 2. Henry Patton GEORGE was born on 21 Feb 1794. He was married to Polly A WILLIAMS on 10 Aug 1820 in Tazewell Co, VA. 3. John Boyd GEORGE was born on 31 Jul 1795. He was married to Rhoda?. John Boyd GEORGE and Rhoda? had the following children: +6 i. George P. GEORGE. 4. Col. Harvey (Hervy) GEORGE was born in 1798. He died on 23 Aug 1865 in Witten Valley, Tazewell Co., VA. Harvey George was a Lawyer and Farmer. He served as School Commissioner in 1830 and in the General Assemby for two terms, 1832-34 and 1848-49. At the beginning of the Civil War, he returned to the State Legislature and served until 1863. He then became a presiding Judge in the Tazewell County Court until his death in 1865. He was given the honorary title of Colonel by Gov. John B. Floyd. In 1829, Hervy George acquired land on the west fork of Plum Creek in Witten Valley, six miles west of the Tazewell court house, and here, about 1843, he completed a large brick home of Three-Part Palladian architecture which was named Chimney Rock Farm. It was also been called The Willows. While common in the Tidewater and Piedmont regions of Virginia, this style of architecture is rare in the south western part of Virginia. This home was placed on the Virginia Historic Landmarks Register in the 1970's and today belongs to the D. H. Harold family. The 1850 Census, also lists William George, age 47 (1803), as living the the household of Harvey. He was married to Sallie HORTON (daughter of Daniel HORTON and Mary). Helen Baylor McNeer's family bible information has the following about Col. Harvey George's home. some of this information differs from a Tazewell newspaper article about this house published about the time it was placed on the Virginia Historic Register. In Helen's handwriting, she states: "this home was built by William George, slaves and a traveling architect, for his son Col. Harvey George, in 1832. His daughter, Mary Matilda George, (my Grandmother McCall) inherited it. Sallie HORTON was born in 1805 in Russell Co, VA. She died on 14 May 1859 in Witten Valley, Tazewell Co., VA. Col. William "Oscar" GEORGE was born in 1825. He died on 12 Sep 1861. In Helen Baylor McNeer's Bible, there is another William George, married to Jenny Patton, who died Nov 22, 1859. Who is he? RLP He was married to Ellenor W. WITTEN (daughter of James S. WITTEN and Leviacy) on 8 Aug 1844 in Tazewell Co, VA. Ellenor W. WITTEN was born in 1827 in Tazewell Co, VA. She was married to James A. FRENCH on 6 Jun 1850. 11. Mary Matilda GEORGE was born on 17 Jul 1840 in Witten Valley, Tazewell Co., VA. She died on 24 Aug 1928 in Graham, VA (now Bluefield VA). She was buried in Maple Hill Cemetery, West Graham (now Bluefield), VA. Their children, especially their daughters, played a prominent and vital role in the life of Bluefield, Virginia for over sixty years, from the 1880's to the 1940's. She was married to Jesse Meek MCCALL (son of John MCCALL Jr. and Eliza MEEK) on 22 Sep 1857 in Witten Valley, Tazewell Co., VA. Jesse Meek MCCALL was born on 8 Jul 1830 in Near Glade Springs, Washington Co., VA. He died on 5 Sep 1904 in Graham, VA (now Bluefield VA). He was buried in Maple Hill Cemetery, West Graham (now Bluefield), VA. Jesse McCall apparantly came to Tazewell County from Washington County, Virginia with his brother, John A. McCall.. Jesse settled in Witten Valley and John in the community called Shraders. In the late 1870's, Jesse and his wife Mary moved into Tazewell, briefly, and then about 1880, went to Graham (now Bluefield), Virginia. He managed the Graham Hotel, was Post-Master, and the towns second Mayor. He was also a magistrate. Mary Matilda GEORGE and Jesse Meek MCCALL had the following children: +20 i. William "Oscar" MCCALL was born on 19 Jan 1875 in Witten Valley, Tazewell Co., VA. He died after 1946 in Northfork, WV ?. He resided at Northfork, WV. From Bluefield Daily Telegraph March 5, 1896 "Oscar McCall, 18 year old son (actually 21) of M/M J.M McCall of Graham. While running to board a moving train, fell under the wheels.
