LOST AND FOUND COLUMN: this family left WV about 1863 to ????????? 1860 census for Hardy county, West Virginia has: James GEORGE age 33, (25 age 1850) Phebe age 31 Sofronia age 14 Jacob age 12 Christian age 6 Gabriel age 10 Mary age 7 Elizabeth is the mother on the 1850 census age 28, with Sofronia and Jacob. Elizabeth obviously died between 1850-1860, since Phebe and James were listed as "married within the year" on the 1860 census. I find it peculiar that the census taker listed the children in two different age groupings, Gabriel belonged to Phebe, maybe Mary did as well. Has anyone run across this family on the 1870 census? Probably more children born since the 1860 census. Sofronia married in Green county ohio in 1864 and returned to West Virginia. Mary returned to West Virginia and married Benjamin Franklin ALT, Sofronia's- brother- in- law. Gabriel may have used Phebe's name before marriage to James--Wolford! Christian was not a very common GEORGE name at the time and area. Does Christian show up in your area? 1870, 1880 Census? If anyone know's where this family may have settled after disappearing from West Virginia, I would love to hear from you! Family Lore said that they went to Indiana but I did not find them there. Nor did I find them in Green county OH. Maybe Illinois? Thanks Elaine
