    1. [GEORGE-L] James Wesley George
    2. Ron
    3. I am searching for James Wesley George, b. Nov. 25, 1847 in or near Sandusky, Ohio. At about age 14, James ran away from home with another fellow named Jimmy Dean. The two made their way down into Missouri and then to Arkansas. And this during the Civil War! He and his wife, Lucretia Singleton of Arkansas, had two sons: Tony Cornelius and Edmond Singleton George and lived in Oklahoma. The sons were born in or near Springdale, Arkansas or possible Lowell, Arkansas. James Wesley was very secretive about his life for some reason. Supposedly, he ran away from home because of "the wicked step- mother". Also, he was supposed to be a championship ice skater, winning trophies etc. in Arkansas. If anyone has a line on this person, I would love to hear from you. Respectfully Ron Dresser

    2. K.Garner/E.Sauder
    3. Hello My name is Kathy Garner and I am an amateur family historian. I have been searching for my grandmother's English birth certificate for 10 years now. Her name was Queenie Mary GEORGE she was born June 2, 1902 in Brentwood, Essex. Her father was Henry GEORGE and her mother, Lucy JENKINS. I have hired private researchers in England twice now and had the Vital Records for the whole of England checked with no luck. I've visited the Chelmsford Record Office myself and searched their holdings. I have her marriage certificate and the birth certificates of all 3 of her children. Her birth place and date and parentage all remain consistent on these documents so, I believe them to be accurate. I've done a search under her mother's surname with no luck. I'm wondering what, if anything, I could try next. Would someone have any ideas? I wonder if anyone would also have research in Brentwood, Essex with the surname of GEORGE? Thank you. Kathy Garner Canada Researching: MCCORMA(I)K - MCNEILL - WILSON (Ayrshire, Sct) and (Auckland, NZ) GARDENER/GARNER - SHARP(E) - LLOYD - TOWNSEND (Tetbury, Gls.) BARNES - BROCKWAY - DARLOW - BACON (London, England)

    1. [GEORGE-L] Hardy Co, WV
    2. Brady P. Emmett
    3. Hello, I am researching the George family Surname in Hardy Co, WV. I have in my records a James George born about 1785, estimated marriage about 1815 to Margaret (?), and who showed up on the 1850 and 1860 census of Hardy Co. Children: John, James (Jr.) , Margaret, Mary, Enos, and William. I also have records of James George (Jr.) born abt 1822, married before 1846 to Elizabeth, married to Phebe Wolford before 1860. He showed up on the 1860 census w/o Elizabeth. Children (from the census) Sophronia, Jacob, Gabriel, Mary, and Christian. I am particularly interested in Margaret and Elizabeth, as well as the parents of James George (Sr.). I have unsubstantiated evidense that leads me to believe that Margaret's surname was Engle and that James George (Sr.) may have had another wife before being married to Margaret. I thank you for any information that you can provide me... Brady Emmett

    1. One of those Reuben GEORGE's
    2. Hi. I'm new to this list, so thought I would check in. The following is by memory, and just a rough idea of what info I have access to on this GEORGE family. Reuben GEORGE, my ancestor, married Ann HANDLEY in 1797, in Greenbrier County, WV. The marriage record showed Reuben as Reuben FOSTER, but I suppose the minister, posting several marriages at once later, got the name confused with another family of the area. Reuben and Ann, their family, and some of her siblings, left Virginia around 1812, and settled down the Ohio River north of Cincinnati in Butler County, OH. Alexander and James GEORGE were also in the county in 1820 per the census. I have no idea if or how these GEORGEs were related to Reuben. He never named any of his children with these first names. I would like to find out who Reuben's parents were. Traditionally, the family historians said it was Reuben and Mildred Rogers GEORGE, but neither the birth nor death dates match between their Reuben and "my" Reuben. (So much for my descendancy from William the Conqueror!!!) Perhaps he was an orphan. There was a William GEORGE, I think, in Greenbrier Co around the time Reuben was there, and a Peggy GEORGE, but once again, no one in Reuben's family was named William or Peggy. Maybe one of the FOSTER families raised him. Lots of maybes; too few answers. Reuben and Ann's children were: Fanny, Joshua, Reuben Jr., Jane, Enoch, and a daughter who died early. With Reuben's second wife, he had Isaac and Mary "Polly". These children reused the names Enoch, Reuben, Joshua, Isaac (plus several more) for males, which makes me think they traditionally named their children for fathers, uncles, grandfathers, etc. Any one have any ideas for tracking down illusive GEORGE ancestors from this section of (West) Virginia in the late 1700s? Reuben was born at the end of July 1777, in VA so far as I know. Thanks for any help. I have some GEORGE info on-line and am willing to share other data as well. 3. This is to advise you that a new website is being developed by a group called THE IMMIGRANT SHIPS TRANSCRIBERS GUILD. This is a group of over 100 volunteers who have decided to transcribe NARA microfilmed passenger lists so that everyone on the internet can have free access to such lists. In addition, the GUILD is receiving donations of lists which have already been transcribed from people on the internet and from webmasters. The GUILD is also preparing links to many sites dealing with ships and passengers lists throughout the world. As of this date, there have been over 50 lists transcribed by volunteers, another 100 in the works, 100 lists donated to the site, and many sites agreeing to link their ships and sites. If you have a transcribed list you would like like to donate, you can contact Joan Rasanen, Resource Coordinator at Joaras@aol.com giving her the name of the ship, the ports of departure and arrival as well as the dates of each.
