Hi gang, I've been working on the George pages again. I've added commentary and documentation on several new pages. Go to the main George page (url below) and follow the links if you want to see any of this. So far I've added these pages: Colonel John George (c1603-1679) and Jane Cole and Ann ---. Isaac George (1635-after 1685) and Hester Fawdon Robert George (1666-1734) and Sarah ---. Robert George (1697-) and Ann Allen. Soon I'll add pages for these, but it may take a few days: John George (c1672) of Isle of Wight Co, VA John George (1704-1784) and Mary Jordan and Ursula Dudley. Richard George (1709-1773) and Elizabeth Mayo. John George (c1725) and Fanny (of Caroline and Pittsylvania Co, VA) Reuben George (c1730-1799) and Mildred Rogers James George (c1738-1799) and Elizabeth Noden (of Caroline and Pittsylvania Co, VA) And of course other George's connected with this family. Each page has (or will have) all the important documentary evidence proving the various family connections. Any comments will be appreciated. If anyone has additional documenation that I haven't included, please let me know. These pages are for all of us. Marty Grant - (Marvin A. Hi everyone, At long last I've updated my Virginia George pages. I still have a long ways to go to reach my goal of listing every documented George family in Va, but I'm making a good start. Currently I have my George family (Col. John George of Isle of Wight) listed at: http://www.martygrant.com/gen/george/george.gen.htm I also have added the Nicholas George family of Lancaster Co, VA at: http://www.martygrant.com/gen/george/nicholas-george.htm And the David George family of Middlesex Co, VA at: http://www.martygrant.com/gen/george/david-george-middlesex.htm I will be adding other families as I find the time. Any comments are welcome. My main George page is at: http://www.martygrant.com/gen/george.htm Marty Grant - (Marvin A. I am hunting for a John George who married a Sarah Housden in 1811 in Shenandoah (now Page) County, Virginia. This couple then seems to have fallen off the face of the earth. I was talking this morning to another Housden researcher who is the president of the Page County, Va Historical Society. In that position she had just received a copy of a letter dated 1813 (the rest of the details are sketchy in my memory) but I think from a ?? Kaufman in Licking County, Ohio to his brother in Shenandoah County, Virginia. In this letter the writer mentioned that perhaps John George could bring him his horse. This is the first inkling that we have that perhaps John George could have gone to Ohio. According to the Page County Va Historical Society president, a goodly number of Page County residents migrated to Carroll County Ohio which happens to be just south of Columbiana County?? Does any of this ring any bells with anyone? I'd sure love to find this George family. Our original Housden immigrant had 9 children and we have descendents of 5 on a Rootsweb e-mail list. There were two were girls who didn't reproduce and two (including Sarah who married John George), were girls who married and then seemingly were abducted by aliens I don't have any additional information about THIS John George. As you can tell, my focus is on the Housdens. I have some more information about Sarah Housden and lots more about the rest of the Housden family if anyone is interested. Brady, I have a Henry Franklin George in my family. He was my gg grandfather. His name was Henry Franklin George b. December 16, 1821 d. November 22, 1876. He had 7 children. Could he be the Henry listed as a child of your Reuben? My Henry's children are Lillie, Nancy, Mary, William, Thomas, Emerson, and Henry. His spouse was Martha, but don't know her last name. I'll be glad to send you the line if it matches anything. My George's at some point in time appeared in Tennessee around Weakley, Obion and Gibson Counties but believe they came from either NC or VA. It sounds like my grandmother may have been among this group. Her name was GEORGE, Helen Florence (b.March 24, 1892). Her parents: William George and Alice (WINTERMEYER) George, both died of Tuberculosis in 1896. She and her siblings were placed in various "homes" in London. She was sent as a young girl to work in Toronto, Canada. We think Helen would likely have made the trip to Toronto about 1906-1907. She was to have been a domestic. She had some experience in London. She ran away & found her brother, Alfred GEORGE (b. abt. 1895) who had been sent earlier; he was working in a logging camp. When she found that she couldn't stay with her brother (a logging camp was no place for a young girl!), she left to New York City. Eventually, by working hard she went to nursing school, married into an Irish immigrant family of LARKIN and moved to Rhode Island. These LARKINs included US Civil War veterans, and politicians of some influence in local Pawtucket, Rhode Island history. In June 1950, tragedy struck the GEORGE family again. After she and her siblings had located each other, they held a family reunion. Flying home from that happy event, her brother Alfred William GEORGE was killed when his plane crashed in a lake outside Milwaukee, Wisconsin, USA. That was the first and last of their reunions. Found among her belongings after her death were personal invitations from US Presidents Roosevelt & Kennedy to attend social functions in Washington, DC. We have no idea what reason existed to warrant such invitations. Her ancestry includes the SOUTHEY surname. She always said she was related in some way to Poet Laureate Robert Southey of Camden (1774-1843). Helen's grandmother, Jane (SOUTHEY) Wintermeyer, is buried in St. Pancras Cemetery. Helen's story is one of hardship overcome by faith and persistence. We loved her dearly. She is buried in Pawtucket, Rhode Island, USA.
I'm searching for descendants of Walter Murphey b.1764 Charles Co, MD marr Susann Poston. Walter was the father of Sarah Murphy, w/o Henry George b. 25 Nov 1790 Pendleton Co, Va; I believe. Hello all, As the subject states.. Looking for information on Will L. George, who married Lessie Horton. Lived somewhere in the Delta county area, (Klondike) during the late 188x's. As I have no info except what Mother remembers, I need a starting point, so will try this one. Thanks, Sam Drinkard -- *** Reading is still the fastest way to program the human mind ***
This is not the same Elizabeth GEORGE, but one who married Alexander BAILY in Andrew Co., MO in 1847, then is said to have gone back to Ohio but to eastern Ohio around a trading post near Wellsville where their first child, Anna Mary BAILY, was born. Does anyone know the geography around there? One source says Elizabeth's daughter was born where the Yellow Creek joins the Ohio River, but that would be in Jefferson County, I think. Alexander BAILY was from Brooke Co, WV which borders Jefferson Co across the Ohio River. They ended up back here in Kansas. Elizabeth is buried near the Santa Fe Trail. There will be a reunion of descendents of William GEORGE, born 23 Sep 1838 in Germany. The reunion will be held in Plainfield, Illinois on August 15, 1999. William eventually settled in the Plainfield/Wheatland area of Illinois. His children married into the families of KEMMERER, HARTRONFT, GREEN, GLASGOW. He married Hannah DUNDORE, whose family came from around the Berks Co., PA area. If you think you may have a connection to this family, please contact me. We are also trying to discover William's parents and when he arrived in the US. Thanks Caron

I am descended from Elizabeth Jane GEORGE (born 11 Sep 1818 in TN), who married Hardy WINDHAM (born 31 Aug 1804 in VA) on 6 Jan 1836 in Lawrence County, AL and died on 17 Jan 1902 in Italy, TX. I am also descended from Mary "Polly" GEORGE (born 22 June 1804 in TN), who married John (Mitchell?) COUCH of SC and died on 30 June 1880 in Italy, TX. The information I have lists the father for both Elizabeth and Mary "Polly" as Samuel GEORGE of South Carolina (who died in 1842(?)). I have found a listing for a Samuel George in Lawrence County, AL for the 1830 and 1840 US Censuses, but according to his listed age he could not have been the father for both girls. I suspect that he is Samuel GEORGE, Jr., the girls' sibling. Does anyone have any information on these families? I would very much like to find that these two females are indeed the daughters of the same Samuel GEORGE, but there is some information which points otherwise. I would be happy to share whatever information I have already with interested parties. Thank you in advance for any help. Astrea
Is there a name index to the book "George Genealogy" ? I might be interested in a copy if my George family is linked to the ones included in the book. C. George
