Hello all, Thgis is great to see so much activitiy on the list. Now seems a great time to ask for information. I am searching for descendants of John George of Virginia woh moved to Tennessee. My grandfather (I have been told he is a descendant of John George) was born in Knox County TN on June 21, 1890. His father was William Trever McLaren George, and his mother was Rachel Minerva Foust. I have not been able to determine the parents of William and the connection to the descendants of John George. Any help anyone can provide will be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance.
William GEORGE and his wife (name unknown) moved from Mississippi to Wood County TX around 1850. The obituary of their son John states that John's father and mother both died when John was quite young, and at the age of 19 he assumed the responsibility of caring for five brothers and a sister. Another source says that William George died in Quitman, Wood County TX in 1873. It may be that William's wife died around 1868 (when John was 19) and William died a few years later. William's known sons are 1. the aforementioned John George, born 27 Feb 1849, married first Mary Louise Everett Cathcart in 1877 in Bosque County TX. They had two daughters, Cliffie Viola and another who married W A Foley. John married second Emily Hanna in Nolan County TX. They lived in Kent County TX and in Ruthven IO. John died around 1914. 2. Jesse Jackson George married Sarah Alice Dennis, lived in Walsenburg CO and Decker TX, died 11 Mar 1931. 3. Silas George nicknamed "Tanky" lived in Sweetwater TX. All I know about William George's daughter is that she was named Laura, her married name was Dennis, and she lived in Olney Springs CO. 4. Alfred Christopher George, born 19 Dec 1853 in Mineola, Wood County TX, married Annie Jones 26 Sep 1879 in Bosque County TX. Lived in Colorado for a while before settling in Dickens County TX. AC died 16 Feb 1933. Any help with William's background or information about his wife? Thanks. Eileen
I have the following George family in the state of Georgia in 1790. They were in Indian Territory at the time, but that is now Lee County in SW Georgia. Amos George Rebecca Joseph b. 1773 Elizabeth 1775 Richard 1777 Ann 1779 Hannah 1781 Jane 1786 In Decatur County Georgia from 1840 to present (area that is now Seminole County) are the following families. I am trying to find evidence that they were siblings: Amos George b. c 1807 in NC m. Narcissus (probably Sykes/Sikes) James George b. c 1813 m. Nancy Mobly Furny/Furnifold b. c 1815 m. Elizabeth Maloy Caroline m. 1839 to Stephen Maloy brother to Elizabeth Maloy above. I have the descendants of Amos and Furny George above and I think that I can round up the children of Caroline George if needed. I had a crash! I am a descendant of Amos George above and would certainly like to learn more about him. I do not believe that the Amos George in Indian Territory is the father of Amos b. c 1807 because he gave his birthplace as NC on the census but that does not always mean that it is correct but Amos George and family were in Gadsden County, FL on the 1840 census. Caroline George and Stephen Maloy lived in Gadsden County, FL which is just across the river from where the family lived in Decatur County, GA. Hope this helps someone. Barbara

Hi, Richard GEORGE noted on pg. 7 of the 1850 Lincoln County, Tennessee, census would not be the son of Benjamin GEORGE. He is quite possibly a nephew. Richard GEORGE, son of Benjamin, was noted in Haywood County, TN, in the 1830s, and Izard County, AR, in 1850. I am curious about the information concerning the GA birthplace of Richard GEORGE's (LCT 1850 census) birthplace. More information on the family of Benjmain GEORGE is available. I also suspect that you will get some more replies from other Benjamin GEORGE descendants. Hi Shirley and the other George researchers, I also have an elusive John George. John married into my HOUSDEN line on June 15, 1811 in Shenandoah County, Virginia (probably in an area that is now Page County) when he married Sarah Housden. I have no idea where John came from or who his parents were, although I suspect that he was a resident of Shenandoah or Rockingham Counties in Virginia. He and Sarah then dropped off the face of the earth. Sarah's brother Benjamin Housden migrated to Williamson County Tennessee by 1818 and on to Henry County, Tennessee by 1848. Many of Benjamin's family were and are still in the Jackson Purchase area of Kentucky. I have no earthly idea why Benjamin moved to Tennessee. As nearly as I can tell there aren't other folks from Shenandoah County Virginia living in Williamson County, Tennessee with Benjamin. Benjamin did marry an Elizabeth Turner in 1814 in Rockingham County, Va before he migrated west. I haven't had any success finding Elizabeth's family either. There were several families of Turners in Rockingham County but I can't pin her to any of them. I think there may be a single Turner family in early Williamson County but I can't get them traced back to Shenandoah or Rockingham Counties. I did find the following John George in the 1820 Tennessee Census index. Maurry County is a neighboring county of Williamson County. 1820 Maurry County Tennessee Federal Census Index George, Johathan 100100 - 01000 I'd love to hear from anyone who might have any creative ideas. >My elusive George is John George, b. 1801, KY., who married (the first

I realize I am an absentee listowner alot, and I don't get on the people on my lists often. I am sorry sbout this but recently some jokes have been sent to the list, I know of at least 2 people who were upset by them. Please do not send this kind of stuff through the lists. The List is for Genealogy purposes. Thank You, Angel Now back to business, Does anyone out there have any Georges in PA and/or Ohio??
