    2. Some of the mailing lists I belong to are moving to groups.io and they seem to be a good option. Have you considered this for the George list? While it's not very active, I would hate to see it disappear entirely. 3. I am looking for information on the parents of Wesley Calvin GEORGE. He was born in 1840 in Virginia, possibly in Lancaster County. According to his death certificate, his father was Jacob Will GEORGE and his mother was named Elizabeth. I have not found anything on them in Virginia, which is my primary focus now. Aaron J. 1. [GEORGE] CLAPPER Family Photograph album including GEORGE Family photograph
    2. Shelley Cardiel
    3. I've "rescued" an old photograph album which is mostly empty now but still contains 10 photographs including photographs of: Howard CLAPPER (believed to be Thomas Howard CLAPPER) Robert CLAPPER William CLAPPER Elias WILLIAMSON Mame ELLIOTT Dr. LARNE Bently GEORGE and his wife Alva LEEDORN Ida SMITH + 1 unidentified girl 4-5 years old All of the other photographs have been removed from the album leaving just the names written below/above the empty slots. The photographs included were taken in Zanesville, OH; Fort Wayne, IN; and Wheeling, WV. Based on limited research I have gathered the following information regarding this family: Thomas Howard CLAPPER was b. 9 Sept 1872 in Salt Creek Township, Muskingum Co., OH to parents George Cedrick CLAPPER (1830-1898) and Mary MCWHORTER (1831-1924). Thomas and his siblings are detailed below. Thomas Howard married Margery Ann MOORE (1878-1958) and together they had 6 children including, Omar E.; Ray; Carl M.; Georgia Mildred; and Edna; and Helen CLAPPER all born between 1892 and 1915. Thomas Howard died in Zanesville, OH on 21 Nov 1961. Thomas Howard was living in Salt Creek, OH during the 1880 and 1900 census; Blue Rock, OH during the 1910 census; and Zanesville, OH during the 1920 and 1930 census. Robert F. CLAPPER was b. 6 May 1858 in Muskingum Co. OH to parents George C. CLAPPER (1830-1898) and Mary MCWHORTER (1831-1924). Robert was one of 8 children born to this couple including, Mary Jane; Robert F.; Nancy Ella; Martha Elizabeth "Mattie"; Louisa "Ida"; Marshall; Thomas Howard; Robert appears to have married twice, first to Jenny (last name unknown) on 16 Dec 1881 in Muskingum, OH and she died 3 Dec 1940 in Muskingum Co., OH and is buried in the Chandlersville Cemetery in Chandlersville, OH. His second wife was Mary Eleanor FRAZEE (1857-1946) with whom he had three children including, Ralph Fayette; Mary Hazel; and Floyd Everett CLAPPER, all born between 1892 and 1898. Robert was living in Salt Creek, OH during all census periods from 1860 to 1940. William Elias CLAPPER was b. 18 Mar 1841 in Ohio to parents Joseph C. CLAPPER (1801-1872) and Mary ECHELBERRY (1810-1890). William was one of 10 children born to this couple including, John; George; Parmelia or Pamlelia; Amos S.; Eunice Amelia; Mariah or Maria; William Elias; Josephine; Catharine; and Converse CLAPPER all born between 1828 and 1856. William died 9 Dec 1919 in Zanesville, OH and is buried in the Duncan Falls Cemetery. Elias Waldaugh WILLIAMSON was b. Apr 1859 in Muskingum, OH to parents William Edward WILLIAMSON (1818-1898) and Susanah A. HUNTLEY (1819-1902). Elias was one of 7 children born to this couple including, Emmeline or Emeline; James H.; Fidella or Fedellia "Della"; Richard Edward; William; Annetta "Nett"; and Elias Waldaugh WILLIAMSON, all born between 1842 and 1859. Some records contradict and suggest that his parents were Isaac Newton WILLIAMSON (1822-1891) and Margaret MCWHORTER (1827-1912) and that he was one of 9 children including, James Henry; Robert J.; Elizabeth; John Ralph; Barbara Ellen; William; Elias Waldaugh; Charles N.; and William WILLIAMSON, all born between 1845 and 1868. Elias was living in Salt Creek, OH during the 1870 and 1900 and 1910 census; Harrison, OH during the 1920 and 1930 census; and Taylorsville, OH during the 1940 census. I believe that Mame ELLIOTT is Minnie M. ELLIOTT the daughter of James H. and Mary A. ELLIOTT who were living in Salt Creek, OH during the 1870 census. Elias married Delilah Jane CLAPPER (1867 or 68-1936) in 1885 in Muskingum, OH. The couple had three children including, Golda or Goldie Lorena; Ethel Mae; and Brian Jay or Jaye Bryan or Jay Bryan WILLIAMSON, all born between 1887 and 1896. Elias died 16 Oct 1949 in Muskingum, OH and is buried in the Duncan Falls Cemetery in Duncan Falls, OH. Bentley T. GEORGE was b. abt 1846 in Ohio and he married Mary M. MURPHY (b. 1852) and the couple had two daughters, Jennie P. GEORGE (1874-1942) and Lona C. GEORGE (1876-1958). Bently died in 1929. Census records have Bentley in Kirkwood, OH in 1870; and Horeb, OR in 1900 and 1910 I am hoping to locate someone from this family so that this wonderful old album of treasures can be returned to the care of family. If you are a member of this family, or you know someone who might be, please contact me. Thanks, Shelley

    3. Has anyone seen the original of the below Rhydwilym Register, or film of same, or the book, paper, manuscript... of the Rhydwilym church book?? Below is a copy of the LDS FHL listing under film #20436. I have viewed this huge film which is readable, has 18 untitled files, i.e., the reader can not tell whose parish ... records you are reading!! I was able to ID the bapt records for Rhydwilym for 1667-1745 but not the marriage or death.. records. The orig Rhydwilym Chapel records reportedly are at the National Lib of Wales but have been told by the Lib that they are only available in person. Anyone understand the listing of Miles as the Main Author and/or Carmarthenshire: Bapt as added author. Is this a book, MSS or film only or??? Any suggestions greatly appreciated. 3. Thanks so much for responding. Great to meet someone walking the turf that my ancestors walked ca 1700! Perhaps some day I can join you. Do you have ancestors that were in Wales ca 1700? I currently believe that my gf William GEORGE of Landissillip Parish was bapt 22 Aug 1709: @ Rhydwilym [Baptist] Chapel, Pembrokeshire, Wales ; 1720s: came to Great Valley Bapt Ch in Tredyffryn Twp, Chester Co, PA, USA [likely with the financial help/guidance of Rhydwilym ??] Ships or ports unknown. He later moved on to the Montgomery & New Britain Bapt Churches also in PA where he continued to be a founding member, donor, deacon.. until his 1767 death. None of these church minutes lists his wf or ch[!?] and his 1767 will still lists no wife but shows ch as Sons Philip, Thomas. Daughters Jane Kerrel [CARROLL], Martha Hylyard, Ann West & Susanna Heyferlin. Granddaughters Martha George & Anne Hyly [Hylyard?]. Ages of children unknown but some could have been b in Wales! I will try to contact the archive offices as you suggested. I look forward to hearing from you again. However I do not hold the parish records for Llandysilio nor Narberth. My computer is playing up today so cannot get in Genuki for Narberth. I understand one of your Georges lived there in early 1700's. Here are the details for the archives offices for Narberth and Llandysilio:- Llandysilio - Carmarthenshire Archives Office, email: Archives@Carmarthenshire.gov.uk Telephone 01267 228232 Fax 01267 228237 They are not open on Mondays. Narberth - Pembrokeshire Archives Office email: recordoffice@pembrokeshire.gov.uk Phone014377754 They are not open Mon Tues Carmarthen hold parish records from 1720 - 1812. The parish records of course are for anglican baptisms but some anglicans converted to the Baptist faith. Baptists had to marry in the anglican local parish church. Many also buried in the parish church. There is a Welsh language book entitled "Rhamant Rhydwilym" i.e. translated "The Romance of Rhydwilym" It was written by local men in this area. Rev E Llwyd Williams and Mr Absolom. I however have lent it out to someone and once returned I shall look it up for any clues Yvonne Evans

    3. Thanks to many of you, the following is my compilation of the long ship ride & walks of my gf Wm GEORGE from Wales, ENG to Bucks Co, PA America- HISTORY OF BAPTISM IN WALES, ENGLAND 1633: The Baptist movement at was started in 1667-68 from Olchon Church founded in 1633 - Earliest record of Olchon church in Wales, a direct descendant of the Hill Cliff Church, but the Rhydwilym chapel was not built until 1701. It is the oldest Baptist church in West Wales and stands in Llandissilio East near the western most point of the old county Carmarthenshire. Rhydwilym Baptist Church was formed during a period of great persecution and people attending the services were liable to heavy punishments because the Anglican Church was the only approved church in England until the passing of the Toleration Act in 1689 . Rhydwilym Chapel is situated in a remote but beautiful valley on a bank of the Eastern Cleddau River in Pembrokeshire, West Wales, England. 1667: Rhydwilim Church came from Olchon Church in 1667 http://www.bcgv.org/about/rootsinwales/ mailto:admin@rhydwilym.com 22 Aug 1709: Rhydwilym [Baptist] Chapel, Pembrokeshire, Wales has bapt for a William GEORGE of Landissillip Parish. [nlwenquiries@llgc.org.uk] [These baptisms in an early Baptist chapel would have to be for Christian believers only. Therefore young children would not be baptized. The minimum age would be approx 13 - 14 years. The elders of the chapel would have to be satisfied that the teenagers could understand what was meant by believers of baptism, per anneyvonne.evans@btinternet.com 20 Nov 2013] 17 Aug 1712: Rhydwilym [Baptist] Chapel, Pembrokeshire, Wales has a bapt for a Thomas GEORGE of Narberth Parish. The dates all fit so I think it's safe to assume that this is what you were looking for. No other Georges' were in the history files. I went thru the entire file that we have. It is kind of odd that he's mentioned there but not again. A William George is mentioned on p. 199 in a list of people who gave money to Great Valley Meeting House in Tredyffryn Twp, Chester Co, PA. And, further down on that page # 199 in a discussion of the Baptist Church at Brandywine which was founded in 1715 and among the founding members there was a Thomas George. [church minutes rev on film # 21679 at FHC 15 Oct 2013 in Vista, CA]. search prompted because the hist records of Shenandoah Co, VA &/or Linville VA Bapt Ch minutes showed that some of their earliest residents/members came from this church and there was uncertainty of whether a Thomas Sr or a William GEORGE was parent of my gm Martha & bro Geo GEORGE, Jr. The New Britain church minutes began when the church was formed in 1754 from a split with the Montgomery Church, Gwynedd Twp, Montgomery Co, PA and ran into 1900s. I rev from the start until 1800 & scanned the rest. The orig congregation inc 4 founders inc Rev Wm White, John THOMAS.. and a list of 20 members inc a Wm GEORGE who is listed alone on several mem lists & the only subscribers list until a Jul 1767 entry shows the only member's death mentioned in the minutes as a Wm GEORGE "bur this Summer at the Society". These minutes list a few mem as admitted by admission ltrs and/or ltrs of demission, very few bapt, almost no women listed, no m, no births, and only one death [Wm GEORGE] , almost no policing, no welfare.. [This would lead one to assume Wm GEORGE was a mem of the "Montgomery Church" bef the 1754 split and perhaps even a member of the father Hopewell Ch in NJ. Hal] In checking the New Britain Baptist Church Records 1754-1858, I found one mention of John and Jane Alderson - they were members on 7 March 1755. There was also a note next to their names in the index that said: "to Rockingham Co., VA" [a parent of Shenandoah Co, VA] Donna Humphrey dhumphrey@mercermuseum.org The New Britain Ch Cemetery records include tombstone readings and burial records at the church which were checked by the late Doris Fadenracht. 3. Thanks Kathy. I have yet to establish a connection of my Baptist GEORGE line through Hopewell. That appears uncertain as well as the possibility of a stop at Brandywine in PA. I continue to piece together their migration in earliest 1700s from the Rhydwilym [Baptist] Chapel, Pembrokeshire, Wales with my gf Wm GEORGE'S immigration into Great Valley in the 1720s, then on to Montgomery, New Britain of PA down to Shenandoah Co, VA and then to Greenbrier Co, WV where my previously dead end gm Martha GEORGE m my gf Geo SEE in 1777. These are all Baptist Churches that were bent on expanding/establishing Baptist faith in USA. My gf Wm GEORGE was either listed as a founding member or deacon of each of these churches until he d 1767 in Bucks Co, PA. What a gratifying trail of new GEORGE ancestors! Thanks to dozens of good people like you that have helped. More later. I wish you Happy Holidays and a better 2014.
