My grandmother, born in Wisconsin in 1900, lost her citizenship when she married my grandfather, native of Germany, in 1920. The bad thing was she didn't even know it until many years later when she went to apply for something. She DID NOT automatically become a citizen when my grandfather was naturalized. She had to go through the process herself. And she did this in the 1940s.
