Well, Chicken Little, you just chicken right back in!! I had LOWER family in Winnebago Co., and some others too. None of the Jackson Co bios reflected any association with Mormons > there, but some should have. I've spent the better part of the last 20 years studying the Strangite Mormons (my family was prominent in that faith) and I'm not surprised that no mention was made in Jackson County, WI regarding the association of the people. After Strang's death in 1856, many of the Strangites abandoned their faith and lived quiet lives -- not even talking about the past within their families. To say they lost their faith would be untrue, I believe, but it would be correct to say they were no longer affiliated. Many of this group joined the Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints which was organized in about 1860 with Joseph Smith III as Prophet and President and headquartered in Independence, MO. Others did not join any organized religious group and simply taught and lived their beliefs in their homes. To say that the Strangite Mormon Church died when James Jesse Strang died is not correct. The Church still exists today in Burlington, WI and other places. Their membership, however, is small. Anything else? Beaver Island, MI?? That would take alot of time and space. Go to <http://www.beaverisland.net> and visit the website there. They do have some history on the web, but the Strangite history is only superficially given. If you want more from me, just ask. Best regards, Norma
