I have never been to the court house in Milwaukee but I'm sure that each county court house has it's own rules. The court houses I have visited in Wisconsin have been very helpful. I would imagine that Milwaukee being a large city would have to be stricter with their rules to maintain some order. I have several certificates that I would love to order, but the cost is so prohibitive. Any ideas? I am in the same boat... the only thing that I have heard is if you can get some one from the list that is going there themselves to look something up for you... or pay a genealogist which would not be cheaper than just ordering the thing.. Wisconsin does not allow you to make copies, take pictures or even be in there with out an appointment... I haven't dealt with a lot of states, but they for sure are one of the least "user freinly" ones that I have dealt with... I was in the records in Milwaukee. No place to sit down, no clock, and a good yelling at if you go over your time... Iris ==== GenWisconsin Mailing List ==== Mailing list moderator: Brenda K. I'm the county coordinator for Ozaukee Co in Wisconsin with a website at: http://www.rootsweb.com/~wiozauke/ Most counties have a list of volunteers as part of their sites who will do lookups at the courthouse - this is something I do here. While you can't get a photocopy of the records, the volunteer will have access to the records and be able to handcopy the information and email them to you. Another site containing many volunteers is: http://www.raogk.org/ I know Milwaukee has strict rules - think you have to sign up way in advance of your visit and know the dates of the birth/marriage/deaths you are looking for, but here at least, there is an alphabetical index which makes searching much easier. I agree. We went to the courthouse in Bonduel, WI and got what we wanted very easily. We did know what we were looking for. They let us look at the books ourselves.
