Carl J. Espeseth, 91, of Prairie Farm, Wis., died Fri., Oct. 11, 2002, at Barron Medical Center. He was born Aug. 2, 1911, to Gilbert & Emma (Faanes) Espeseth in Maple Grove Twp., Barron Co., WI. The fam. moved to Prairie Farm in 1919, where they farmed. On Oct. 12, 1940, he was mar. to Agnes Moen in Prairie Farm, where Carl operated the Moen fam. farm until retirement. He'd been a res. of Pioneer Nursing Home since 1999. He is survived by his son, Milo (Marlys) Espeseth of Prairie Farm; grandchildren Sue (Scott) Sand, Scott (Karie) Espeseth & Sonja (Steve) Schaaf, all of Prairie Farm; gr. grandchildren Taylor, Tony & Joe Bever, Tom & Ben Sand, Peter & Kelsey Espeseth & Hannah & Heidi Schaaf; sisters Helen Hockert of Prairie Farm, Marie Gilbertson of Chippewa Falls, Mable (Bill) Crowther of North St. Paul, MN., Thelma Klugow of Danbury & Doris Laurence of Rice Lake; as well as many nieces, nephews, other relatives & friends. Carl was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Agnes on Nov. 15, 2001; bros. Clarence & Bennie Espeseth & sisters Esther Young, Clara Tyler & Ella Stansbury. I'm not sure but I think that the hobby farm we acquired in 1980 was in Maple Grove township before the boundaries changed to Prairie Lake township. There was a Espeseth who homesteaded there in 1887 and then sold it to his brother a couple years later. I can't lay my hands on the abstract at this moment but I am curious to know if this man was born on our place. We still have the original log house , barn and outhouse that we have tried to restore. Those buildings(except the outhouse, because we are not finished with it) are still in use today. We don't live there year around but just in the summer.
