WANECK, LEIGEL and EICHINGER families living in Franklin, Sauk/Iowa Co., WI in the 1800s. My search of the area has resulted in the knowledge that many families from Bavaria settled in the area. However I have found little reference to indentify the parents, sisters, brothers of these families, birthdates, dates of emigration, birth and death dates, land holdings, etc. I have found a Josephi WALNICK (presumed WANECK) and wife Thedae LIEGEL (presumed LEIGEL) attending the wedding ceremony of their daughter Catharine to Adolph ROTT (sometimes spelled ROTH or RATT as this time) on 2 April 1864 in Sauk City, according to the church records of St. Aloysius Congregation in Sauk City. Catherine was reportedly born in 1844. She died 30 June 1895 in Washougal, WA. At the time of her marriage, she is mentioned as a widow of 20 years of age and her former husband was a NAGEL. (can anyone identify whom this person might have been?) Adolph Roth was born 1 November 1830 in Alfter, Prussia according to the baptism records found in the Catholic church arhives in Alfter. His death date is still unknown, but after 1910, where he is found in the WA census Another entry from the same church shows 1.1864 marriage St. Aloysius Congregation church records at Sauk City, Wisconson. Honey Creek: Day 7, month November I in matrimony joined Theodorum ROTT, son of Mathiae ROTT from Prussia____?, and Katharinam EICHINGER, daughter of Michael EICHINGER from Bavaria_____?______. Witnesses. Mathias ROTT and Michael EICHINGER. Year: 1864 Katherine Eichinger was born 11 November 1848. Various records show her being born in PA and Germany. She died 7 September 1916 in Washougal, WA Theodore ROTT was born 9 May 1836 or 1838 in Alfter. He died 24 September 1908 in Washougal, WA Many Bavarian families were living in Franklin- sometimes cited as Iowa Co. and sometimes Sauk Co. All three families are reported to come from Bavaria. Is there any sources regarding these Bavarian families and does anyone have any information which might help with my research? The transcription from the St. Aloysius Church in Sauk City provided great information but due to undoubtedly difficult reading, resulted with many open questions. The WALNICK name is spelled in many different versions (WALNICK,WANNECK,WANJAECK,WANECK,WANECKI as follows: Sources: 1. Marriage date and parents information Source: St. Aloysius Congregation, Sauk City church records. Marriage record at church shows her father as Josephi WALNICK and mother Thedae LIEGEL of Franklin Iowa County. Witnesses at wedding were Mathias ROTT, grandfather and Joh. Germany Each entry shows different spelling of family name. 6. Wisconsin Marriages, pre-1907 Can someone do a look-up to see if any of these persons are mentioned? What is the correct family name spelling? The EICHINGER name research also reveals a number of different spellings (EICHINGER, AICHINGER,EITGING (EITYING), EICHENER) as follows: Sources of this Family name 1.1864 marriage St. Aloysius Congregation church records at Sauk City, Wisconson. It would appear that EICHINGER might be the correct spelling but I have been unable to uncover any additional reference to this Michael Eichinger, exact date of birth(?1802?), wifes full name (believed to have been born in 1817 in Bavaria), date of emigration, land records, etc. I have been unable to find any other references to the LEIGEL, LIEGEL family name. The information provided by anyone regarding any of the above mentioned persons or extended families is appreciated.
