Hi Folks! A vicious rumor has been circulating among my relatives for the past 80 or more years concerning the death of my cousin's grandmother, Susan Lahti Gobie. Susan Lahti Knuutila/Gobi was born July 1863 somewhere in Finland. She married Samuel Knuutila in Finland in 1885. Susan's husband, Samuel Knuutula/Gobi, emigrated from Finland to America in 1890. Samuel was joined by his wife, Susan Lahti, and their two children who also emigrated from Finland to America in 1892. Upon arrivial, the family settled in Gogebic County, Mi and later moved to Montreal, Iron Co. WI. The rumor is that Susan Lahti Gobie got drunk, fell into a snow bank and froze to death. This accident supposedly occurred in either 1911/12 in Montreal, Iron County, WI. Would someone with access to newspaper records from that area and time period, please check to see if there is any merit to the rumor. Thanks for any help provided!! Best regards, Ron
