A friend of mine passed this along to me. It's the Wisconsin Circuit Court Access webpage. It offers information on Wisconsin lawsuits and other court information. I know it goes back as far as 1988 since I found my grandfathers will probate information from that year. Need to be careful as to what information you get as it comes to the current dates as well. http://wcca.wicourts.gov/index.xsl __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? I'm trying to find a divorce that happened in 1926. Do you know where I could find that information. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Wanda Gonzalez" <mygeneologytree@yahoo.com> To: <GenWisconsin-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Tuesday, September 07, 2004 5:24 AM Subject: [GenWisc] Wisconsin Web Site for current court information > > A friend of mine passed this along to me. If you click on http://wcca.wicourts.gov/index.xsl and agree and then go to simple search. Type in one of the names and if it is documented through the court system, it should show up! Holly, Thanks for posting that site. I found a couple of interesting things there. About 2 weeks ago I posted here asking about finding a Court case in Wisconsin. Someone suggested I try this site; http://www.wiwd.uscourts.gov/ I signed up to this site about 10 days ago, gave them my charge card number and all my details and never heard back from them. For the last 5 days this site isn't working. Has anyone else been successful with it? I'm still trying to find the court case. It isn't on the site that Holly gave. Hi Sue, It depends on the county as to where the records may be. Some counties keep their records in off-site storage, making an appointment necessary to be able to see them. Winnebago has released divorce records to the Oshkosh Public Library - some may be kept in the archived of the Area Research Centers - like Brown County and Oconto County at Cofrin Library, Green Bay. Not to say that the state doesn't have copies. These just happen to be places I have found records. I believe that the year when records can be removed from the courts 'files' varies with the kind of case. Where they may have been traditionally destroyed after 75 years, the courthouse (I believe) is now required to first offer them to local genealogical or historical organizations. So you may even have luck in some places and time periods, looking for what a local historical society has in its archives. Without knowing the county, you will be spending more time hunting. LDS does have a microfiche that has some divorce index records for Wisconsin. I am not sure if it goes back that far, though. Good Luck!
