Hi all, I found this obit using http://www.genealogybuff.com: [LaCrosse Co., Wisconsin] Howard L. Tjoflat Howard was born Oct. 5, 1911, in Ettrick, Wis., to Amund and Eleanora (Torkelson) Tjoflat. He graduated from the Galesville High School. Howard married Carolyn Nyberg on May 3, 1931, in Blair, Wis. Together they farmed first in rural Strum, then rural Blair, and later in rural Ettrick. They retired in 1982 and moved to Whitehall. Carolyn preceded him in death on Feb. 22, 1995. Howard has been a resident of the Grand View Care Center in Blair since 1996. Mr. Tjoflat was a member of Our Saviour's Lutheran Church in Whitehall, where he sang in the church choir. Howard will be long remembered for his beautiful tenor voice and the hundreds of funerals and weddings he performed for. Even as a senior citizen, he warmed many hearts with his special gift. Among Howard's memories of his youth was the ringing of the church bell to inform the Ettrick townspeople that World Was I has ended on that first Armistice Day in 1918. As an adult, he was a progressive farmer and was an active member of the National Farmer's Organization. Howard was a strong supporter of education and was devoted to his family and church. Mr. Tjoflat is survived by three sons, Kenneth (Margaret) and David (Cindy) Tjoflat both of rural Ettrick, Wis., and William (Maureen) Tjoflat of Green Bay, Wis.; four daughters, Jean Tjoflat of Hopkins, Minn., Anitta (Robert) Back of Iron Ridge, Wis., Ellen (Jeff) Hauser of Whitehall, Wis., and Mary (Larry) George of Bloomington, Minn.; 16 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. In addition to his parents; and wife; Howard was preceded in death by three brothers, Gerald, Oliver, and J. Kenneth Tjoflat; and two sisters, Bergliot Erickson, and Viola Tjoflat. Funeral services will be held on Friday, Dec. 4, 1998, at 11 a.m. in Our Saviour's Lutheran Church in Whitehall, Wis. Revs. LaMoine Jacobs and Richard Kelling will officiate. Burial will be in the Pioneer Cemetery in rural Ettrick. Visitation will be Thursday, Dec. 3, 1998, from 4 to 8 p.m. in the Jack Funeral Home in White Hall, Wis., and also one hour prior to the services at the church on Friday. Hope this helps. Bill
