Hi all, John McLean is my brick wall. John was born April 14, 1843 in New Brunswick, Canada to John McLean and Esther Thompson. He came to the United States in 1874. He is in Maple Valley, Lena and Spruce in Oconto Co., WI., during the 1880, 1900, and 1910 census. He married Elizabeth Blanche Morrissey, d/o John Morrissey and Anna Archibald on June 12, 1876. Elizabeth was born July 13, 1855. She and her family had come to Wisconsin from New Brunswick, Canada also. John and Elizabeth had 14 children between 1877 and 1898 in Oconto Co., WI. Their son, (my grandfather,) Claude McLean married Ida Pecor, who was a granddaughter of Peter Pecor, a founder of Oconto, Wisconsin. Claude's small family, along with his parents and siblings, except for 4 sisters, moved West through Canada, to Washington State and later to Oregon. The four sisters that stayed in Wisconsin were Ida Arlene COURTLAND, Mary Jane RYAN, Agnes MCNULTY, and Eva HANEK. I am looking for any information about these families, but desperately want to know about John McLean's ancestors. We only have his parents names John Mclean & Esther Thompson. John may have siblings Bernice and William. Any help will be appreciated.
Karen Keyser, I notice you mention the John McLean, you were looking for, had family in Washington State. My former father-in-law was named John G. (Jack) McLean. He was born Dec 15 before 1920, possibly in Mineral, WA and lived his adult life in Tacoma, WA. He married Martha Hoyt (daughter of John F. Hoyt). John McLean died in the late 1970's. He worked for the Milwaukee Railroad. John/Jack McLean's mother's name was Inez (maiden name unknown) and I believe his father was Don/Donald McLean and he may have also worked for the Milwaukee RR. I remember Inez refering to her deceased husband as "Don". John McLean had a sister named "Jane", who married a Victor Klemencic, a career Army man. They were stationed in Germany and then I visited them in the area of Newport News, VA in 1969. Jane McLean Klemencic's widowed mother Inez (Unknown) McLean lived and traveled with them until her death in VA 1975. Jane and Victor Klemencic probably retired from the military and could still be living in VA. They had three sons, whose names I don't remember. John and Jane McLean had a younger brother named Jerry (probably Gerald) McLean, who lived in Ephrata, WA and died in the 1980's. Also, an older brother Patrick McLean, second wife Marjorie, who also retired from the Milwaukee Railroad and they moved to Mile City, MT. John McLean talked about family lore indicating, his ancestors originally came from Canada and that his surname then was spelled MACLean. I knew this family from 1963 until their deaths. I do not remember them talking about extended family in Oregon. This is sketchy information, but I am posting it in the hopes it might be helpful to you in your search for the ancestors of John McLean, b 1843.
