I received an email reply from the US Copyright Office today, but will have to email them back. I had emailed two questions and they weren't clear on what I was asking in the one so will email them tonight. The second question I had asked was "I have a book copyright date 1881. Can I publish some of the information from this book on my website without breaking the copyright law? Answer-Any work published prior to 1923 is no longer protected by copyright in the United States and is therefore free to use. I will email them back with a clearer question on the other item we had discussed through the mail list and see what they say. I thought they were pretty fast with answer-I emailed over the weekend and got the answer this am. If any one wants to email with questions their email addres is: COPYINFO@loc.gov. I'll pass along what they have to say to my next email.
