WHO?
Hi, I am wondering if anyone has an appointment yet this year for the State Vital Records Office in Madison? If anyone does would they be willing to do 1 death look up for me? We are unsure exactly what county she died in & exact date of death. We have County down to 3 & death down to about a 6 yr span. Please contact me off the list for further details. Thank you so much, Kathy
As part of the recommendations of the 9-11 Commission, Congress is taking up H.R. 10 which has a section about identity theft and terrorism. Sections 3061- 3067 of the act deal with improved security for birth certificates and could close access to certified and uncertified birth records to genealogists. The states would have to comply with this law. To see the legislation go to Http://house.gov and then go to Find a Bill or Law. Click on that and then put H R 10 into the box with the Bill Number and click on search. You can then read what the bill actually says. It is important that we write our Representatives and Senators about this section of the bill. You can find your representaives at http://www.house.gov/ by entering your zip code. Go to http://www.fgs.org/rpa/formalactions.htm . to see a sample letter. Send e-mail to send e-mail to Hastert, Green and Sensenbrenner who are co-sponsors of the bill. Ancestry.com is aware of the problem. I sent a specific search test for them to work on. It's probably a fouled-up SQL database search command. Ancestry's reply: ----------------- Thank you for your email. We apologize for any confusion. We are currently addressing the search result issues you are experiencing in the Historical Newspapers Collection. The inconvenience is a temporary situation and hopefully will be corrected shortly. In the meantime, we suggest using the keyword field to search for the name, instead of using the first and last name fields. Your patience in this matter is appreciated. Original message follows: ------------------------- Description: The Rootsweb Gen-Comp-Tips forum is noticing that Ancestry.com searches appear to be borked. Too few or too many hits. I just searched for surname Raehl in the newspaper collection and found nothing. Yet I know Walter Raehl appeared about 24 times in the Oshkosh Daily Northwestern (Wisconsin), several months ago. James Raehl (me) appeared 3 times. What is going on? Ron Bestrom wrote: > I just tried to use Ancestry.com to do a search and found they have changed the results system. And I LOVE Ancestry.com but so far using it has either turned up way too many or none.. the exact spelling feature is a little nicer than they way they had the old one set up, but it doesn't make up for how inacurate the regular system is. Donna, Are you sure it was not Battleground, WA? It is in the SW area of WA state. Many people migrated from WI to WA. Patti One of the migrants from WI to WA
First it might be helpful to know just who is buried there and when. We might be able to identify where they were buried if we can find out where and when they lived. As to Battleground, there are a number of populated places, including the one here in Washington. There are probably a large number of Battleground cemeteries. Including the Battleground National Cemetery in Washington DC, one in Indiana, Montana, Alabama, Idaho, Arkansas, etc.
