    3. Iris, do you live in Wisconsin? Peshtigo was our deadliest Forest Fire in Wisconsin history. Another horrible fire, just over the Wisconsin border into MN., was the Hinckley Fire. My gr. gr. aunt & her husband just barely escaped the Hinckley Fire with their lives.

    2. Heart's Desire
    3. I believe the Peshtigo Fire was 1895 according to my memory off the top of my head. It was the exact same day as The Chicago Fire but, because of its distance from NEWS providers, it wasn't heard of, nationwide, until 3 days later. If you need help in Barron, Rusk or Sawyer counties, I may be able to help somehow. I also do research in Chippewa, St. Croix & Pierce counties., as well as Washington Co., MN.

    3. Thanks, Rosemarie! This is all I have. This man was a great uncle of my dear friend Marlene. She's been working with computers at various libraries to trace her genealogy, but doesn't have a computer at home. Since I've had so much good luck with these email lists myself, I told her to give me some names and I'd see what I could find through an email list. I appreciate the list of counties. I think I'll locate historical societies for as many as I can and she can write to them to see if Abraham shows up in any of their records. Was the Peshtigo Fire in 1885? 3. Predominant logging industries were in Brown, Marinette, Forest, Vilas, Sawyer, Washburn, Douglas, St. Croix, Dunn, Barron, Rusk & other counties north of Tomah, WI. Are you sure of the 1885 death date? Are you positive he wasn't killed in the Great Peshtigo Fire? If he was killed there you may not find info on him as many victims were unidentified. Can you tell us MORE about him? Rosemarie in Barron County.

    1. Find 1885 Wisconsin death?
    2. marilyn Stulken
    3. I looking for a needle in a haystack. I am seeking information about Abraham Olson/Olsen Mjeld, who immigrated from Norway in 1882 and, according to family information, died in a logging accident in Wisconsin in 1885. I am particularly interested in learning where in Wisconsin he lived. Does anyone have any suggestions for finding him? Does anyone have information on which Wisconsin counties had logging industries in 1885? Thanks. Marilyn

    2. In a message dated 10/6/2004 8:01:21 PM Eastern Daylight Time, GenWisconsin-D-request@rootsweb.com writes: As part of the recommendations of the 9-11 Commission, Congress is taking up H.R. 10 which has a section about identity theft and terrorism. Sections 3061- 3067 of the act deal with improved security for birth certificates and could close access to certified and uncertified birth records to genealogists. The states would have to comply with this law. To see the legislation go to Http://house.gov and then go to Find a Bill or Law. Click on that and then put H R 10 into the box with the Bill Number and click on search. You can then read what the bill actually says. It is important that we write our Representatives and Senators about this section of the bill. You can find your representaives at http://www.house.gov/ by entering your zip code. Go to http://www.fgs.org/rpa/formalactions.htm . to see a sample letter. Send e-mail to send e-mail to Hastert, Green and Sensenbrenner who are co-sponsors of the bill. The address http://www.fgs.org/rpa/formalactions.htm does not work!!!!
