Thank you all so very much for all your help in finding Morris Christensen.. Yes, he was 9 years old and he DID work and help in the rug cleaning business. Life was sure different back in the "good old days" Thanks again, Greta
Hi Greta, I'm thinking Morris might be 19 rather than 9. His age is a little smudged and all that's showing is a 9, but he's listed as a laborer. I don't think he'd be working if he was 9, unless he was helping in his dad's cleaning establishment. Do you have any info on Morris at all? -------------- Original message -------------- > My Fathers uncle had a Rug cleaning business on John Ave around 7th street, > in Superior, WI. In the 1930 census, his name is spelled Christennson. He's 43 and Minnie is 49. Married 10 years. Morris is 9 and it looks like he was born in Minnesota. Nels and Minne born in Denmark. Living in Superior, WI, Douglas County. Nels is in the Dry Cleaning business. -------------- Original message -------------- > My Fathers uncle had a Rug cleaning business on John Ave around 7th street, > in Superior, WI. Please disregard my last post re: Morris Christensen. I was confused after not doing any research in quite a while. My mistake...Sorry. Julie Berg-Duffy
There is a Morris and Minnie Christensen in the 1920 MN Census for Northstar Township in Brown County. It lists Morris - age 52, born in Denmark, and Minnie - age 49, born i9n MN. No child is listed, however. Might this be your family, also? Julie Berg-Duffy
I seent a copy of the 1930 Wisconsin census page, but I had to send it to the general rootsweb list. I tried to send it privately to the email address below but I got the message "invalid email address" I hope that you get this. Let me know if you have any trouble accessing this page. Could someone do a lookup for me in th 1865 WI State Census for the family of Thomas SWANCOAT, Waukesha County, town of Genesee. I know they are there - just don't have access to this film. Any help would be appreciated as my local Wisconsin library does not have this film. Shari
Gail, This is what I have found so far. Looking at the image they either live in the same house or right next door to one another. Can't tell if the house numbers are both 1211 or the second one 1212. 1850 Census <A HREF="http://search.ancestry.com/cgi-bin/sse.dll?indiv=1&db=1850usfedcenancestry&gsfn=&gsln=Remning&gsco=2%2cUnited+States&gspl=52%2cWisconsin&year=&yearend=<pop=1&prox=1&yeart=a&ti=0&gss=angs&sourceid=2524&submit.x=0&submit.y=0&fh=0">John Remning</A> 50 BirthYear;1799 Germany Male Sheboygan, Sheboygan, WI <A HREF="http://search.ancestry.com/cgi-bin/sse.dll?indiv=1&db=1850usfedcenancestry&gsfn=&gsln=Remning&gsco=2%2cUnited+States&gspl=52%2cWisconsin&year=&yearend=<pop=1&prox=1&yeart=a&ti=0&gss=angs&sourceid=2524&submit.x=0&submit.y=0&fh=1">Margaret Remning</A> 47 BirthYear;1802 Germany Female Sheboygan, Sheboygan, WI <A HREF="http://search.ancestry.com/cgi-bin/sse.dll?indiv=1&db=1850usfedcenancestry&gsfn=&gsln=Remning&gsco=2%2cUnited+States&gspl=52%2cWisconsin&year=&yearend=<pop=1&prox=1&yeart=a&ti=0&gss=angs&sourceid=2524&submit.x=0&submit.y=0&fh=2">George Remning</A> 22 BirthYear;1827 Germany Male Sheboygan, Sheboygan, WI <A HREF="http://search.ancestry.com/cgi-bin/sse.dll?indiv=1&db=1850usfedcenancestry&gsfn=&gsln=Remning&gsco=2%2cUnited+States&gspl=52%2cWisconsin&year=&yearend=<pop=1&prox=1&yeart=a&ti=0&gss=angs&sourceid=2524&submit.x=0&submit.y=0&fh=3">Anna Remning</A> 20 BirthYear;1829 Germany Female Sheboygan, Sheboygan, WI <A HREF="http://search.ancestry.com/cgi-bin/sse.dll?indiv=1&db=1850usfedcenancestry&gsfn=&gsln=Remning&gsco=2%2cUnited+States&gspl=52%2cWisconsin&year=&yearend=<pop=1&prox=1&yeart=a&ti=0&gss=angs&sourceid=2524&submit.x=0&submit.y=0&fh=4">Albert Remning</A> 10 BirthYear;1839 Germany Male Sheboygan, Sheboygan, WI <A HREF="http://search.ancestry.com/cgi-bin/sse.dll?indiv=1&db=1850usfedcenancestry&gsfn=&gsln=Remning&gsco=2%2cUnited+States&gspl=52%2cWisconsin&year=&yearend=<pop=1&prox=1&yeart=a&ti=0&gss=angs&sourceid=2524&submit.x=0&submit.y=0&fh=5">Ranniginda Remning</A> 7 BirthYear;1842 Germany Female Sheboygan, Sheboygan, WI <A HREF="http://search.ancestry.com/cgi-bin/sse.dll?indiv=1&db=1850usfedcenancestry&gsfn=&gsln=Remning&gsco=2%2cUnited+States&gspl=52%2cWisconsin&year=&yearend=<pop=1&prox=1&yeart=a&ti=0&gss=angs&sourceid=2524&submit.x=0&submit.y=0&fh=6">Peter Remning</A> 4 BirthYear;1845 Germany Male Sheboygan, Sheboygan, WI Hope this helps in some way not having much luck in 1860 or 1870. Seeking descendants of the following family: John Remning b ca 1800 in Germany, wife, Elizabeth, came to the United States mid 1840's. Known children: Herman, John, Mary, Frank, Gertrude, Caroline, Catherine, William & Elizabeth. The last four children were born in Wiscosnin. They settled in Menomonee Falls, Waukesha County. Any information, help, on this family will be appreciated. This is not my family, however I think there might be a relationship to my family. John Remning Sr. was the same age as my great great grandfather, John Gollner, and was a sponsor for two of John Gollner's children here in Wisconsin. Thanks, Gail Clayton _________________________________________________________________ Dont just search. Find. Hi all, I am trying to help my relative in Germany on a surname of his. In German it is Lerchenstein-in the USA it is translated to Larskstone or Larchstone. I did find 2 Lerchenstein in the census & sent him the images. Now I find 1 Larkstone listed in Ancestry.com birth marriage & death records. This seems strange since neither Larkstone nor Larchstone are listed in the census indexes from 1860 on up to 1920. Nor is it listed in any message board as a surname nor in ROOTSWEB SURNAME LIST/RSL nor in SSDI. I found 1 LERCHENSTEIN in SSDI and sent him the info. I am wondering if someone would consider looking up the info contained within & send to me? Thank you much, Kathy
Kathy, In looking at the 1900 Census Image, Fred and Elizabeth immigrated in 1868 so they should be in the 1870 Census. The other info as follows: Fred Wangelin b. Jan. 1844 - Germany Farmer Lizzie b. Dec. 1847 - Germany Hilda b. March 1871 - Wisconsin William b. July 1873 - Wisconsin farm labor Elmer b. Aug. 1881 - Wisconsin This is what I have found so far. Cindy
