I am wondering if anyone has access to New London Newspapers who could look up 2 obits for me? Will of course pay you for obits & postage. Helen Affeldt Mansfield who died May 10, 1949 & Omar Stake who died August 20, 1992. Please do not ask me to order from the library. I cannot get to the library in winter months-nobody is doing look ups in New London papers on oBit page nor in Waupaca Co period. Thank you, Kathy
New Bill Will Close Records to Genealogists HR10, which was mentioned in the 13 October issue of RootsWeb Review, has passed out of the U.S. House of Representatives and is now part of S.2845. The amendments suggested by David Rencher in his letter to the bill's sponsor, Congressman J. Dennis Hastert, were NOT incorporated into this legislation. Thus, the terms of HR10 will now be considered by the Senate, as part of S.2845. If S.2845 becomes law, as now written, family historians will face some real challenges in attempts to obtain birth records, even on long- deceased individuals. Specifically, what genealogists need to do is suggest to their lawmakers the addition of Sec. 3061(b)(1)(A)(iii) that would read: "who is alive on the date that access to their birth certificate is requested." This addition would clarify that the legislation (soon to be law) applies ONLY to birth certificates of CURRENTLY LIVING PERSONS. If you do not know your U.S. Senator's e-mail address, you can find it at http://www.senate.gov/ This bill can be found online at http://thomas.loc.gov/ Put in S.2845 (in the bill number window) and then select item No. 3; and go to Subtitle B--Identity Management Security; Chapter 2--Improved Security for Birth Certificates.

I am hoping maybe someone can help me out. Would like to locate her on census plus connect with anyone researching her. This is what I have so far: The Teutonia Ships Passenger list shows Friedericke Koehnke age 28 with a 5 yr old son Fritz Koehnke, leaving Hamburg arriving New York Oct 16, 1869. She came with her mother brother & sister. Two other siblings came earlier. All came from Mecklenburg. She married an Unknown Cook or Koch fellow. She is still alive with residence listed as Waterburg in 1924 per her brother's obit. No state listed in obit. All her siblings remained in Wi. No such place exists in Wisconsin so we thought maybe Waterbury. Unfortunately I cannot locate her in any census. Have located census for all her siblings. Still trying to get verified info on some of her siblings. I've tried Family Search & Ancestry World Tree & Heritage Quest census but no luck. Maybe I'm not looking well enough-I do not know. Probably the best place to start is wherever their grandparents were. If they were orphans, there must be court records transferring guardianship to Mary Fuller. > It is possible the boys were part of the Orphan trains. It's my understanding that the orphan trains were composed of children from New York. KQL
Susan, There are state Census for years 1885 and 1895 available in the library, but only list heads of household and how many males and females living with them.
Thank you so much Judy. It seems he is unlisted in 1920. I do know his wife had a child the end of January so maybe were visiting some relatives. Maybe that is why he is unlisted. Thank you so much for looking. I was thinking maybe I overlooked him in census but now I know is not the case. Hi, I am new to this list and am looking for my Great-gr-grandfather and his brother who were orphaned and taken in by a Mary Fuller. They would have been in her home sometime after 1880. William Henry Forrest born Jan.4, 1872 Indiana Samuel Thomas Forrest born Jun.7,1873 Indiana ( He later changed his name to Thomas Samuel since he didn't want to be called Sammy) The boys are found in the 1880 census with their grandparents William and Eliza McBee. Since Mr. McBee was in his 60's and Eliza in her 50's and they had other children of their own they were still raising they maybe couldn't take care of the boys. It is possible the boys were part of the Orphan trains. I have done a search through Ancestry for a Mary Fuller in Wisconsin but there are several and since I don't have an age or somewhat location I don't know where to start. Are there any census for Wisconsin between 1880 and 1900 that could be checked for the boys and maybe find the right Fuller? Thanks Susan
