Is there anyone on list from Barron County, Wisconsin who could help me out? Chetek in Barron County is the area I am interested in. I have a lady from Norway staying with me who has found that some of her relatives were in that area. The one name we have is Arnt/Arndt A. Wold who was married to a lady named Aase and they had a son named Sivert who died at a young age. She would like to know if they had any more children. Margit in Minnesota
Hi Tracy, I'll look tonight when I get home from work at midnight and post any. Have vols 1 and 2 until Wed. Have you checked the bios on the WIGenExchange page for your surnames? I know there are some there, perhaps some you're looking for. Hi Janet, I'll look when I get home tonight and post any KELLOGGs to the Langlade Bio Page. (The WI KELLOGGs are related to the cereal people of Battle Creek.) I have the vols 1 and 2 until Wed of next week. The village of Trempealeau bios are are posted (the rest of that county coming soon). All 850 of the Dodge County bios are posted, as well as all those from county histories in Kenosha, Racine, and Lafayette Cos. Eventually they will all be up! Are there any biographies on any ELLIOTTs, TRACYs or MC DONALDs in the History of Northern Wisconsin? Thank you. Shirley
Hi Cathy, Does this book have bios from Langlade County. I am searching KELLOGGS who were in the lumber business and owned mills. Janet
The book has been reprinted by the Taylor's Falls Historical Society and is available at several stores in Taylor's Falls, MN. My copy is a paperback and cost $45. Hi Norma & Cathy, I'm a proud owner of OmniPage Professional but please bear in mind that any OCR is only good as the quality of the material that you are scanning. If you are scanning something that was written from a typewriter or from an old handset written book, it's going to have a difficult time reading everything well. Nevertheless, the OCR is a valuable tool but please do consult your manual to learn the tricks of trade. It has a spell checker which I use but once I'm finished I paste everything into my word processor to check it once again. Good luck Melville >In a message dated 07/05/2000 3:02:10 PM Pacific Daylight Time, >CKubly9527@aol.com writes: > >> Scanning in? Don't I wish! I am really interested in this subject. I do alot of Wisconsin research, too, and thank you for your wonderful efforts in the researcher's behalf. Norma
I've found a tremendous difference in the quality of the OCR end results depending on which software I use. I use Omni Page Pro now, and haven't looked back twice. Yes, the old typefaces cause fits with it at times, but it is pretty smart and the auto edit/correction sequencing is just easy as can be to use. So far, I find it faster for bulk processing of multiple pages -- but if I need to just grab one page, it's just easier to type it. OK, we return everyone to their regularly scheduled mail list about Wisconsin, and not OCR software. :) deb - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - deb Christensen (deb_msn@msn.com) Graphics Connection Forum http://www.computingcentral.com/topics/graphics/ ----- Original Message ----- From: <CKubly9527@aol.com> To: <GenWisconsin-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Wednesday, July 05, 2000 2:53 PM Subject: [GenWisconsin] Re: Warm Fuzzy > In a message dated 07/05/2000 3:45:17 PM Central Daylight Time, deb@dm.net > writes: > << a big warm fuzzy for scanning and putting online all the bios out of these > old > history books -- I have a few old books, which I am attempting to scan in, > too, and > it's a good deal more time consuming than I thought it would be to begin > with. >> > > Scanning in? Thank you, Cathy! There he is big as life. :) And a big warm fuzzy for scanning and putting online all the bios out of these old history books -- I have a few old books, which I am attempting to scan in, too, and it's a good deal more time consuming than I thought it would be to begin with. ::grin:: deb - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - deb Christensen (deb_msn@msn.com) Graphics Connection Forum http://www.computingcentral.com/topics/graphics/ ----- Original Message ----- From: <CKubly9527@aol.com> To: <GenWisconsin-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Wednesday, July 05, 2000 1:15 PM Subject: [GenWisconsin] Re: Frank ATWOOD biography > Hi Debbie, > If you check the "search all fields" box on the following page, you can > search the hundreds of bios already posted for WI counties. Thank you everyone who has responded to my letter. I did not realize this was a three volume book. Yikes! So ... I'm not sure who has access to what I'm looking for: HISTORY OF NORTHERN WISCONSIN, 1881 (TREMPEALEAU COUNTY) Atwood, Frank, 1046 Do let us all know who can look for it so folks aren't duplicating efforts, OK? Then I'd feel really bad! deb (Atwood) Christensen - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - deb Christensen (deb_msn@msn.com) Graphics Connection Forum http://www.computingcentral.com/topics/graphics/ ----- Original Message ----- From: <CKubly9527@aol.com> To: <GenWisconsin-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Wednesday, July 05, 2000 12:20 PM Subject: [GenWisconsin] Re: Book: History of Northern Wisconsin, 1881 > Hi Debbie, > I have two volumes of this for a couple more days, and am entering all the > biographies to the WI GenExchange.
