Hi All, Just wanted to let you all know I'm behind getting these bios to those who requested bios for a particular surname in the old WI county histories (1881). (visit to doctor and tests I hadn't planned on...) These volumes are NOT indexed, so I'm indexing, and should be done with this by Mon at the latest. Working from an index will ensure I don't miss entries for surnames that are requested, and make it possible for me to open this up to anyone who wants a lookup in these old biographies. I will eventually be putting all these bios on the GenExchange pages, so it doesn't matter which ones I upload first. Thus a lookup is no extra work at all; it just changes the order in which the bios are posted. Ask away if you have a surname request, and I'll enter those first. What a deal, eh? I suggest doing a search every now and then in the bios on the State page by using the search engine on the WI biography page, as this will pick up your surname within the text of other bios whose headings are different from the given surname. I will be entering bios until they're all gone (which should probably take until September!), so check back now and again. When the index is done, I'll start searching for the surnames I've gotten requests for already, and entering those bios first. I'll post to this list as bios of different surnames are uploaded, for example, the first post will be "KELLOGGs loaded." If you know your ancestor is in Kenosha, Racine, Dodge or Lafayette County, all the bios for those counties are posted (as are those for Waupaca, on Paula's page). Hope you find something useful! If anyone wants to request a surname lookup for any bio in the old WI county histories (1881), please mention "Bio Request" in the subject line. You don't have to know the county, but if you do, please include that information as well if you have a specific request. Hi Mel -- Thanks for your comments on OmniPage Professional and scanning. I hope to be a "proud owner" one day, also. In the meantime, I'm plugging away on my Wisconsin research and praying for a scanner. A few more prayers and $300 and I can have just the one I want! Hi, I recently picked up death certificates for my paternal grandparents. They were Christine Sitter and Louis Meisinger, and my maternal grandfather was Joseph Jungwirth. Louis Meisinger's parents were Joseph Meisinger and Anna Steckbauer/Stoegbauer. Joseph Jungwirth's parents were Sebastian Jungwirth and Franziska 'Frances' Ebersberger. Christine Sitter's parents were Ida Wagner and Louis Sitter. My maternal grandmother is still alive. Her name is Josephine Lester Jungwirth. Her parents were Abigail Haskins and Peter Lester AKA Pierre LaDouceur. Joseph Jungwirth was born in Oshkosh, WI. in 1905. Josephine Lester Jungwirth was born in LaPointe, WI. (Madeline Island) on April 25, 1918. Sebastian Jungwirth was born in Bohemia, Austria on Jan. 20, 1874. Frances Ebersberger Jungwirth was born in Bohemia, Austria also. Louis Meisinger was born in 1892, and Christine Sitter Meisinger was born on Oct. 25, 1897, and died in Oshkosh, WI. on Feb. 17, 1953. Does this sound familiar to anyone?
