    2. <I found info on two ancestors and the places of birth are given as Rock Co, W.F. (in 1843) and Jerrerson Co W.F. (in 1852) (this I believe to be the result of poor handwriting and should be Jefferson County).> Could it possibly be W.T.? Then it could have been the abbreviation for Wisconsin Territory. This would have explained only the first entry as Wisconsin Territory was established April 20, 1836 but became the 30th state May 29, 1848. Richard D. Jenkins

The abbrieviation for Wisconsin anything would not that been WI untill just recently. Wisc. or Wis was used in the past until the post office came up with the two letter codes less than 40 years ago. Just an observation.... Iris

My first thought (depending on the time period) is that the W.F. is really W.T. which would stand for Wisconsin Territory. Very frequently, an "F" and a "T" are so similar that it is difficult to tell them apart. But, perhaps, W.I. -- although I cannot think why they would put periods between the letters if it was WI to stand for Wisconsin. Sincerely, Norma

    3. You know, you don't even have to leave the 20th century to find that Capital F's and Capital I's were far more ornate than they are today, and the handwriting could easily be confused one for another. When I'm faced with telling some of these letters apart, I compare other pages written by the same hand, until I can clearly understand the handwriting. It was probably crystal clear what it meant when it was written... changes of style in cursive script happens faster than you realize. And that's just the "recognized" style they teach in schools. Handwriting after school age, of course ... isn't graded anymore, and we all know what THOSE changes can look like ::grin:: deb - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - deb Christensen (deb_msn@msn.com) Graphics Connection Forum http://www.computingcentral.com/topics/graphics/ ----- Original Message ----- From: <TAZEQ@aol.com> To: <GenWisconsin-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Wednesday, July 12, 2000 5:53 PM Subject: [GenWisconsin] W.F. and WI > In a message dated 7/12/00 6:08:58 PM Central Daylight Time, > GenWisconsin-D-request@rootsweb.com writes: > > > Anyone recognize the W.F. as somehow meaning something about Wisconsin? > > > > All help is appreciated. > > > > Cheryl Baker > > > > > Hi Cheryl, > > Is it possible that the instance of 'bad handwriting' is to blame here as > well? 1. [GenWisconsin] Chicago or Green Bay??
    2. Hello, I have a birth/baptism certificate for Andrew Radzinski, 12-1-1875 from St. Stanislaus Kostka Roman Cath. Church in Chicago, Illinois. I have been trying to find the marriage record of his parents, JOSEPH RADZINSKI and ROSALIE EDEL sometime between 1871-1875. There is no record of it at this church. I know some time ago there was mention of libraries in Chicago but I didn't need this at the time so didn't pay attention. The family moved to Green Bay, WI, but I'm not sure when. Joseph and Rosalie both died in Green Bay and I have those death certificates. Any advice on where I could find their marriage record? Thank's, Jean

    3. Dan, I think this is what you are looking for: Browse the Roster of Wisconsin Volunteers, War of the Rebellion, 1861-1865 http://www.shsw.wisc.edu/roster/search.asp Or you can go to either my Richland County or Green County websites listed below and click on "Military". It will be the link with the little red *. There are also lots of other Wisconsin Military links on those pages and I would be interested in adding more.
