It basically consists of one bar/tavern as well as about 8-10 houses. It is on Hwy 67, in Walworth County, just northeast of Elkhorn, which is the county seat for Walworth County. It is one of those places where you don't want to blink or you will miss it! <g> Candy

    1. [GenWisconsin] some towns still have different regulations for marriage
    2. ashley tiwara
    3. I think legal age of consent for marriage has always been set by the state, whichever state, but some towns and cities had different legal requirements for marriages. For instance, even today you can go to Zion, Illinois, and to Bessemer, Michigan, in the U.P., and just get married. No waiting period and purportedly no blood test. Zion has a good Chinese restaurant, too, on main street, Sheridan Road.

    2. MAK
    3. Deb, Most of my kin got married prior to 18 - a tradition I did not opt for (grin). In WI and most of the other states I researched, a guardian had to give consent for minors prior to marriage. My mother said she had to get a signature prior to her marriage (she was 15), and when checking my parent's marriage certificate, it wasn't there, so it was done prior, probably on the application for marriage. I have been told that those records were normally transcribed into a ledger kept at the county level. I have yet to find such a record in WI, but did find it in KS when the marriage was registered it noted the parents giving consent. In some southern states, a bond had to be posted before a couple could marry, despite age. In those cases, it lists who posted the bond and sometimes relationship was noted. In the case of posting bond, the person did not have to be a guardian, but was usually a relative. Hope this helps. 1. Re: [GenWisconsin] minor consent required?
    2. I have 2 WI marriage cerificates that mention consent for a minor party. One said " one of the contracting parties, being a minor under 21 years of age, the consent of the parents was personally given to the undersigned Justice". This was a male. The other said 'Husband a minor with consent'.
