Risum and wife, Herman Drackrey and wife and Louis Gokey, wife and child, of Pulciver, Miss Emma Garbrecht of Shawano and Miss Margaret Crown of St Nazianz. When about 3 miles from shore the boat was capsized by a sudden squall. It has just been posted on > http://www.ancestry.com/ and is available, free of charge, for the next > 10 days. Jean I checked out the Ancestry birth records for Wisconsin residents. I found that the four names I was looking up were there, but just like the LDS index for looking up names. the place of birth, the date of birth was incorrect according to the legal records and tomestone records I have. vickie

    3. This is very true. I was not able to locate my great-aunts on the state index, but all of their births were recorded in Sparta's local birth index book. 2. Not everyone registered births before 1907. One of my ancestors registered their first child, but not the following 5. The few who are on the film, are also posted. And some delayed births were not even registered until the 1940's when they were trying to apply for Social Security.

    2. OK perhaps my comment was misunderstood.... I was commenting on the person who seemed to believe that it was ANCESTRY.COM's fault that his ancestors were not on the pre 1907 birth list. I was trying to find out if anyone knew of someone that was ON that list... that list with the state index only... and was not on ANCESTRY.COM's version of the state list. It is my belief that the gentleman's ancestors were not on the index with Ancestry, because they were not on the list in the first place..... My question was Can anyone say the microfilmed pre 1907 list is more inclusive than the posted one? Iris

    2. I copied the following from the search site page. I guess some areas thought they'd keep things to themselves! Or it's possible they just never made it to Madison or wherever the records were held. 3. I would like to invite you to explore my new website The POORHOUSE STORY at http://www.poorhousestory.com which is a clearinghouse for information about 19th century American Poorhouses. We have just posted the list of residents of the Brown County Poorhouse from the 1860 Census on the WISCONSIN page. If you go to the homepage (above) just click on POORHOUSES BY STATE and then click on WISCONSIN on the table of states. Hope you enjoy the site. Feel free to post any information you may have about that or any other poorhouse ... either on the MESSAGE BOARD or by e-mailing me. The only way this site will grow to include more WISCONSIN info is by kind folks tipping me off to it!!! <grin> Please don't respond to me on this list. (I would get FIRED or SUED by my ISP if I maintained subscriptions to all the e-mail lists on which I post announcements!! <grin>) Thanks, Linda Crannell (aka=The Poorhouse Lady)
