Cathy:- I found your Genealogy Exchange very interesting. I did not check into the counties, but went directly to the US Bio-Bin. I was amazed. There were names there that I felt should have been for Dodge County only to find that they were also living in other counties at one time. So it seems that even a long time ago, people did not stay in the county they first settled in. I appreciate all the work you are doing. When I looked over the requirements for hosting a county, I felt I was not equipped to work full, full time on a county.. Right now I am busy translating german obituaries from 1917 and this keeps me busy in my spare, spare time. vickie
My family was in Washington Co. Is there anything on Washington Co.? Thanks, Thelma
I don't Washington Co. on the list, is anyone doing it? Thanks, Thelma
The form is not on line. You need NATF form 80. You can order it via email and it will take about 10 days to get it. I don't have the address but it's on the NARA site. Make sure you order enough forms as you will need one for the pension record and one for the military record for each person. Hi You might try page 233 listing of DAVIS in the state listing of civil war people. There are lots of Edward Davis also Edgar W Davis. Their web site is http://www.shsw.wisc.edu/roster/searchresults.asp?alpha=da The Davis in my family tree was Roscom W. Davis, from Adams County, WI and moved into IA after the war. I think he ended up in Dows, or Clearenden(sp) IA. His daughter married into the Munson family and my dad's mom was a Munson born in Dows, IA. Mike Welsh mwelsh727@aol.com
Hi, my Dad's cousin died in 1978 in Black River Falls, WI and his wife was there for awhile. We recently heard that she died and the last place we heard she lived at was in Cameron, WI. We don't know exactly when, but assume that it was within the past couple of years. We were wondering if someone could find the time to look for us, it would be most appreciated. Her name was: ALMA DISCHER and her deceased husbands name was: ROBERT DISCHER, born in Illinois. They owned a tobacco farm in Black River Falls. Many thanks in advance for any and all help. There are currently 4 County Coordinators, including myself. (Three of us have two counties each.) We are trying to get the sites off to a booming start with the bios. I'm not entering Green, Walworth, Juneau, Sheboygan or Milwaukee (I would add any additional material I might have, however), as the CCs for those counties are entering those bios. The rest of the counties I am transcribing and posting the bios for. I'm doing it since it is proving to be an excellent way to learn about the counties and their settlement, something I need to know if I am going to develop into a knowledgeable and effective state coordinator. I should be crawling out of the "Bio Bin" by the end of the summer and will focus on other types of records then. I was thinking old obits may be a good place to focus on when the bios are done. The old obits should tie into the info presented in the bios, and pick up where they left off. Haven't been there before - won't be going frequently, as it is a 4 hr drive - records probably in Black River Falls, but will try Alma Center and Garden Valley too for local records. Is there anyone on the list who is familiar with the above names in Wisconsin circ 1850-1875? Thanks, Margit
I'm glad he took his name off the list - sounds like a genealogist who hasn't been doing research for very long. After all, without all of your help, where would we be? I do appreciate all you do and are willing to do. I give you a big Hug. I'd just like to say that any genealogy site is as good as what is submitted to it for data. I don't always find a member either, but I leave a message and sure enough someone thoughtful enough to know something will contact me and give me what they have and I try to do the same. I'm still working on mine family and have not submitted any information yet. It just takes time and effort to get things organized. I'm just want to say thank you for any and all genealogy sites/without them we would have ZIP. Jo Tom & Linda McGoey wrote: > I totally agree. I believe it is Form 180. But double check at the site I previously indicated. I just sent away for WWI records. I don't expect to have good luck. There was a major fire at the Records Office in St. Louis. MO in 1973. Almost 80% of records are gone, for certain service branches (I think it was the Army). Anyways the NARA site would tell you more about that. Good Luck! Linda Hendley wrote: > Does anyone know which form number you use for W.W.1? Hi Nancy, NARA is online at http://www.nara.gov/research/ this is the research page. scroll down on the page . In the left Index is "Order Forms for Military Service and Family History Records". That link should tell you how to aquire Civil War Pension records and what form to send for records and Pensions. There is a "e-mail" address to send for the Pension Records Forms. Just tell them how many you need (limit 6) and they will send them to you. Very convenient. You'll need NATF form 80 for Civil War time period. Or just read over the info on the web site..
