    2. Hi Joan, I checked the La Crosse obituaries at http://lplcat.lacrosse.lib.wi.us/genealogy/ but found 2 other Dischers. I would suggest trying the yellow pages to see if Black River Falls or Cameron has a newspaper. You can find the location of Cameron by going to rootsweb and WI. I believe they let you enter a city and they will tell you where it is. I don't live around there. Donna

Dear Joanne: I would love to accept your hugs and kisses, but I don't think *I* deserve them -- I'm sure you mean them for our wonderful Cathy who is transcribing the bios. I'm just in the cheering section. But, if you really mean all that affection for ME, I can only say THANKS! I love it. Norma

    3. Our Library uses these reprints for some of their reference shelf editions.Whether they have an original under lock and key or whether the Historical Society might, too, I don't know. The copy they have there, compared to the original I have ... is much easier to use. :) It isn't as large, I think the paper is "thinner", making the book noticeably thinner. The volume itself isn't as big h x w either, but understand, this book I have here from 1892 is just a HUGE book. I do think some of the pictures are not in it. Don't quote me on that one, though. I believe they have specs on their paper they reprint on at the website. It's a major chore scanning things from the book I have. Often it's just easier to type in the material than scan it, frankly. The book at the library is much less unwieldly. (Does that make the book "wieldly" ??) It's hard cover, of course. Some of the smaller books that Higginson has are just very affordable. I wish they reprinted a book about the area I grew up in ... because I paid over $95 for it just recently, and had been looking for it for a long time. It wasn't a large book at all. These biography books, well, look at the number of pages, you'll see why they cost so much. Your mileage may vary, depending on the age of the original, I guess, but after being able to compare the two books, I would have no qualms buying from Higginson. I'd sure check the Historical or Genealogical Society, or the Local History Room at the Library of the area to make sure it was a book I wanted though. deb - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - deb Christensen (deb_msn@msn.com) Graphics Connection Forum http://www.computingcentral.com/topics/graphics/ ----- Original Message ----- From: "Red Shark" <Redshark@utelco.tds.net> To: <GenWisconsin-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Saturday, July 22, 2000 11:19 AM Subject: Re: [GenWisconsin] Re: Hx N WI Books > Has anyone used Higginson Books yet? My enthusiasm for Jackson Co., WI is boundless -- and for some of the other counties as well. I am (and have been for more than 30 years) working on trying to complete a study of the people involved in the STRANGITE group, the followers of James Jesse Strang after the death of the Mormon prophet, Joseph Smith, in 1844. I got involved because some of MY OWN ancestry were participants in the early early days of Mormonism and then didn't follow Brigham Young to the Great Salt Lake valley, but instead followed JJStrang. It has been a fascinating trail! I enthusiastically seek descendants from the Strangites and may be able to help some of them with their family history. So....if you know of any....pass them my way. My very best regards, and appreciation for your work. Norma
