1. [GenWisconsin] Re: land
2. >From a totally ignorant new Yorker who doesn't know a thing outside of her NY boundaries. :) Were there certain German Societies in the 1850s that would sponser immigrants, by way of the promise of land? I saw an interesting post on a NY list, where someone said a German Society would sponser a whole group from a certain area in Germany (by way of literature..Like a sales pitch.) to lure them to the midwest where land was promised. From NY they booked passage for points further west. Question..Would the land have had to be bought before they even left the homeland? Question..If it was BUT they never left NY, what would happen to the land if they didn't claim it? I.m looking at Green Bay, Mantowoc County. 2. The bouncing mail is up to the list owner. They can set a certain # on their utilities list before being unsubbed. Mine is set at 4. And even then it's too many when u have more than one server bouncing! Actually, I believe it is the individuals server that gives problems. Rootsweb has this protection because of SPAM. The Smartlist' server at Rootsweb, detects the bounces as spam and protects u. :) Nancy Brooklyn Info Page

1. [GenWisconsin] Mortality Census Question
2. mary silvernail
3. Hi, I recently found my GGG Grandfather Bartus Silvernail on the 1860 Waupaca mortality census. He died in Weywawega in December of 1859. In 1855 he was in Oakfield, Fond du Lac County with 2 of his sons, in 1860 one son was still in Oakfield, the other had moved to Pepin County. I have no idea what Bartus was doing in Weyauwega the family seemed to stay together, my only other thought would be that maybe one of his daughters and her family (unknown name) moved to Weyauwega. There is no record of his death or that of his wife Elizabeth who must have died between 1855 and 1859. Here's my question. Can the land Bartus lived on be traced through the mortality census? I don't see anything on it, like a farm number or dwelling number that are on regular census records. Thank you, Mary Silvernail
