    3. Hi Norma! Yes, I did see the ALMOST, and I agree--it is a great tool to have. Just sorry I can't seem to find my Alpheus in there. I am having a problem with this couple anyway---have conflicting info----one source says they were married in Wisconsin, and the other says in Iowa. So who knows? It may be that this is NOT my Sarah Jane anyway. Thanks for your help---it is always nice to have someone pass along good hints for help!!! 3. Here's another hint for finding a spouse or a husband. When I could only find one person and not their mate, I entered only the county and the page number. It produced about 70 choices but as I scrolled down each page looking for the date Sept 15, 1863 and finally found his spouse with the date Sept 15, 1868. The "3" was read as an "8" or the other way around. Now all I have to do now is figure out which one is correct Good Luck Melville in Tokyo >Thanks for the hint on using other search parameters. 3. Has anyone noticed the dates. I have found many of my ancestors marriage dates, but they have the year as 1801. The index is 1820-1907. 1801 shows up on several different surnames. Shouldn't it be 1901? Has anyone noticed this or is it just me? 3. I too noticed that many 1800's dates given for marriages are in fact 1900's. i.e. listed as 1804 should be 1904.

    3. If you have used this source to find the marriage date and one spouse it would seem the most prudent thing to do next would be to write to the county or state and request a copy of the marriage record. I also found a web site where you can order Wisconsin birth, marriage and death records on line. It is http://www.shsw.wisc.edu/genealogy/order/index.html. The cost is $15.00 per search. I sent for 2 birth records the other day, but have not received them yet. 3. Thanks for the hint on using other search parameters. I just have a note on what I found. One marriage of a great aunt, the date says 1803, instead of 1903 all other documentation is correct. secondly you do not always find the spouse. I did find my great grandfather listed and the marriage date is 2 days off from what is listed in the family bible. So did they register and then marry two days later, the second part is I did not find his wife no matter what I tried. I did get a hit on my gggrandmother and it appears she may have married in Milw as opposed to Fon du Lac as family lore has said, once again I found nothing resembling a spouse. My find was Mary J Freeman marr 03 Feb 1856 county Mil , vol 02, page 0127 vol A seq 18208, her husband should be Charles Rapley (Rapilje) Thanks again Researching Rapley/Rapilje, Freeman, Richardson, Seerley/Sörley, Sauntry in Wisconsin Jeannette Rapley Sauntry

    3. Hi Terry, Yes, I'm finding the same thing. It seems everything list from 1801 - 1807 are actually 1901 - 1907. Perhaps the transcriber had written so many 1800,s that when he/she were doing 19??,s wrote 18??. Melville in Tokyo >Hi! 3. Hi! I belong to Ancestry.com and have been searching the WI Marriage Index and finding some interesting things you need to keep in mind. After checking a few couples that I had the names, but no marriage dates, I would find one of the couple listed but when I checked the other name to see if the info matched, there was no entry for the second spouse. So I checked some couples that I had all the info on already and sure enough the info was only listed under one of the spouse's names. It could be either the male or the female. I also found an error - it gives my grandmother's dom as 11 April 1807 when it was 1907, there again is no listing under my grandfather's name. Thought I'd pass it on......Terry

But when I searched using the COUNTY DATE PAGE# data, it often turned out that the spouse WAS there, but the spelling would be slightly different, or the spelling would be incorrect altogether, i.e. Esletta instead of Estella (!!), or in one case the bride who had been listed in our family records for many years as Emma June Helgers turned out to be Emma Jane ODGERS and there isn't a "Helgers" in the whole database -- not male or female! So, someone in my family made a "whoooopps" a long time ago. We are all human and subject to those kinds of frailties, right? I find this a most interesting database to work with, don't you?
